The men’s 100m fly featured some of the best Texas swimmers currently in college swimming. Jack Conger, one of if not the best swimmer on the Texas roster at the current moment, absolutely dominated the race to drop a personal best time of 51.64.

Prior to that swim, Conger’s best time was a 52.51 from the prelims, showing a massive time-drop in the event.
Conger was out first in 24.20 followed by Tim Phillips. Conger began to extend his lead while Phillips faded and another Texas star took his place behind Conger. Tripp Cooper passed Phillips and ended up grabbing the silver medal with a time of 52.91.

Coming third overall was Cal commit Andrew Seliskar swimming out of NCAP. Seliskar was a swift 53.20 to take home the bronze.

1:41.4 200 fly at practice. That is mind boggling

EVEN IF you get a friendly stop watch and you go on foot leave from the blocks that’s about 1:42.0-1:42.2, incredible.

No, please. Don’t add the 200 fly to your schedule. 🙂 It starts to do a lot of events.
100 free
200 free
100 fly
200 fly
100 back
200 back
Has serious choices to do in the next years.
Right now I see his 100 fly and 200 back as his best events. I talk about long course.
He must also have the freestyle relays in mind. So much potential on freestyle.
But you can’t swim everything.

8 medal potential in Rio or Tokyo with a 2 fly. All three relays plus individual 200 free, 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly, 200 fly. It’s probably unrealistic to expect that from him, but he can definitely gold in the 1 fly/2 back with a drop in each. Maybe 50.5 or below for a medal in the 1 fly and 1:53.3 for a medal in the 2 back.

Also the 2 fly is not the US’s strongest event anymore without Phelps. Shields, Luchsinger, Clary, and Seliskar are probably top 4, but outside of that there’s definitely room for Conger to A final at Trials if he chooses to swim it more seriously.

There is a lot of potential, although… Read more »
