IU’s Mike Westphal to be Inducted into Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Indiana University associate head swimming coach Mike Westphal will be inducted into the Linfield College Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 7.

“It is an honor to be inducted into the Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame,” Westphal said. “Linfield gave me a great collegiate experience which I want to pass on to the student athletes I work with today.  Without Linfield I would not be the coach/person I am today.”

A 1996 graduate of Linfield, Westphal ws the 1995 NAIA national champion in the 400-yard IM. A four-time All-American and a 1996 Academic All-American, Westphal set records in two individual races and three relays events. Westphal was a three-time captain (1994-96) and garnered Linfield College Athlete of the Year honors in 1995.

Westphal is in his second season as associate head coach for men’s and women’s swimming and his 12thoverall at Indiana. Westphal has overseen the training of the distance and middle distance groups at IU, with numerous swimmers winning Big Ten titles and earning All-American honors.
