Former NCAA Champ Patrick Schirk Joins Brown Staff

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men’s swimming & diving team has announced the hiring of Patrick Schirk as its volunteer coach.

“We are excited to have built a coaching staff that rivals any Division I team in the country,” said head coach Chris Ip. “Our coaching staff continues to push the envelope, providing the best opportunities for the men’s program.”

Schirk brings USA National Team experience and an All-American status to the staff, having been the 2008 NCAA National Champion in the 200 backstroke. He will provide the Brown student-athletes with an example of the work ethic and drive needed to become a national champion level swimmer.

Collegiately, Schirk swam for Penn State. His Big 10 knowledge base will add to the current staff’s Ivy League, SEC, and ACC experience. Schirk has swam for some of the best coaches in the country with a number of other world-class athletes. He will bring an abundance of new training philosophies and ideas to the program.

Schirk is currently a Brand/Product Manager of a Spine Surgeon Request Team for DePuy Synthes, a Johnson & Johnson company, in Raynham, Mass.

The Bears open up the 2015-16 season this Saturday (Nov. 7) at Yale for a 4:00 p.m. meet.
