The Iowa Central swim program put the finishing touches on their regular season with a strong showing at the home Midwest Cup over the weekend.
Four Triton swimmers recorded Top-10 times with numerous season and personal bests also going down in the Dodger pool.
“I’m so very proud of all that the team has accomplished,” Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. “It was the last home meet for our 12 sophomores. We’re all very excited for where we are and what we can accomplish as a team down in Florida for nationals.”
Tjeerd Van Stein moved to seventh in the 100 individual medley while Haley Snawerdt also moved to seventh in the 1,650, improving her previous time by four seconds.
Saige Knight is now ninth in the 200 fly and Dylan Jones 10th in the 200 back.
Magali Mouton had a big meet, as the sophomore won four events. She claimed the 200 breaststroke (2:30.30), 50 freestyle (26.26), 100 free (57.40) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.50).
Lily Wright was a three-event winner, scoring golds in the 200 individual medley (2:19.18), 100 backstroke (1:03.94) and 100 individual medley (1:02.55). Saige Knight captured both the 200 butterfly (2:27.10) and 500 free (5:45.20).
Earning wins were Snawerdt in the 1,650 (20:02.40), Emily Small in the 200 backstroke (2:26.71), Shannon Murphy in the 100 butterfly (1:02.78) and Penny Lawrence in the 400 individual medley (5:29.85).
On the men’s side, Kyle McKenzie placed first in the 200 individual medley (1:58.93), 200 breaststroke (2:08.95) and 400 individual medley (4:17.11). Van Stein was the winner in the 100 free (47.71) and 100 butterfly (52.84).
Also scoring first place finishes were Jonathon Turner (50 free/21.89), Brady Ferguson (200 free/1:49.53), Javier Santiago (200 butterfly/2:02.58), Andrew Iverson (500 free/4:59.59) and Jones (50 breaststroke/28.28).
The Tritons will now prepare for the NJCAA Championships, which take place April 28-May 1 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
