The whole of the competition on the final day of the 2011 Brazilian Senior/Open Championships looked a bit tired on the final day in Rio, resulting in no spectacular times being posted. This is not really a surprise given the level of training that the majority of the swimmers were in and the strenuous setup of this team-driven meet.
The biggest name to win a race was Fabiola Molina in the women’s 100 backstroke in 1:01.48. Because of her swims that were erased by a doping-suspension earlier this year, she still hasn’t met the Brazilian Olympic Qualifying time in a counting race of 1:00.82.
Molina wasn’t swimming under ideal circumstances, after travelling to Switzerland to have her case heard before the Court of Arbitration of Sport on Tuesday. FINA is protesting the CBDA’s 2-month suspension (that resulted in her missing the World Championships) as being too short. We should find out the result of the CBDA’s arbitration within the next week.
