Ian Donahue, who hails from Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Delaware for 2022-23.

Donahue is a rising senior at Grosse Pointe North High School. He specializes in free, fly, and IM and swims currently with Pointe Aquatics after having spent the pandemic with Sarasota Sharks. At the Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships-South, he logged all new times in the 50/100/200 free, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM. He was a top-8 finalist in the 50 free, 200 free, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM and he placed 9th in the 100 free. Two weeks later he competed at the Michigan High School MHSAA D2 State Championships and came in 8th in the 100 fly (51.32) and 3rd in the 200 IM (1:54.21). That marks a huge improvement from his 9th grade season when he placed 17th in prelims of the 100 fly (53.35) and was 11th in the 200 IM (1:57.40).
Donahue’s best times would already score for the Blue Hens at the conference level. He would have made the A final of the 400 IM and the B finals of the 200 fly and 200 IM at the 2021 CAA Championships.
