Illinois HS Sectional Champ Angelina Cakuls Commits to Miami (Ohio)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school senior Angelina Cakuls from St. Charles, Illinois has verbally committed to Miami University in Oxford Ohio. Cakuls trains with the the Hinsdale Swim Club and attends Fenwick High School.

She joins what is one of the biggest recruiting classes in school history for the Redhawks, with at least 15 female swimmers & divers publicly committed so far.

Cakuls’ most recent major meet was the Illinois High School Girls’ Sectional Championships, which replaced the traditional state championship meet in October amid coronavirus safety concerns. There, she swam new lifetime bests in the 50 free, which went as a Sectional victory in that event.

Cakuls also swam the 100 free (54.30) and 100 back (57.83) at that Sectional meet, where she placed 2nd in both events. In that 100 backstroke, she placed 30th in the unofficial aggregation of all Sectional results statewide done by some local coaches.

At the college level, while she could long-term be a free relay contributor, she projects primarily as a backstroker individually.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 24.52
  • 100 free – 52.65
  • 200 free – 1:54.73
  • 100 back – 56.35
  • 200 back – 2:00.97

Her best time in the 100 back was done a year ago at the Winter Junior Championships – West, while her best time in the 200 back was done in March, just prior to coronavirus quarantines kicking in.

Her best time in the 200 back already puts her in scoring territory at the Mid-American Conference Championship meet based on last year’s results. That’s an area where the Redhawks are a little thin this season after graduating both of their scorers (7th-place Izzy Herb and 12th place Claire Doerr) from last year’s conference championship meet.

Also announcing commitments to Miami in the class of 2021 are Emma Schueler, Makayla Hoehn, Emma Israels, Madeline Padavic, McKenzie Reid, Natalie Stump, Jordyn Homoki, Erin Szczupakiewicz, Katheryn Antonowich, Taylor Connors, Lauren Murray, Emily Rinker, Maggie Stock, and diver Vivian Niekamp.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
