WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team earned their first victory of 2025 defeating nonconference opponent Providence 188-111 Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Pool.
The win improves the Crusaders’ mark to 2-3 on the year while Providence falls to 2-3 overall.
The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Laura Arciniegas, freshman Natalie Neno, sophomore Devin Brindle and junior Nora Smillie started the meet off with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.86).
Brindle, Smillie and Anticev earned two individual first place finishes each. Brindle finished first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:56.83 and in the 100-yard butterfly (58.15). Smillie brought home first place at 25.00 in the 50-yard freestyle and in the 100-yard freestyle (55.28). Anticev placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:53.65) and in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.77).
Freshman Laura Arciniegas hit the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (59.91). Sophomore Megan Nelson tallied a first place showing in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:11.25. Junior Anisley Nalen (2:08.99) and senior Ginger Berry (2:09.63) were 1-2 in the 200-yard backstroke.
During the diving events one the one-meter board, freshman Brenna Short (290.10), sophomore Sarah Grady (267.60) and senior Ciara Scamby (262.05) collected first, second and third place. Short (300.60), freshman Addie Jenk (270.98) and Scamby (258.45) had podium finishes in the three-meter dive.
Ending the meet, Smillie, Brindle, freshman Samantha Schwarting and Nalen capped off the Crusader win in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:40.21.
Holy Cross will host Sacred Heart (7-4) on Senior Day, Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team collected a 161.5-134.5 win in the Hart Center Pool against nonconference opponent Providence Saturday afternoon.
The victory was the second in a row for the Crusaders (3-2) while the Friars remained winless at 0-5.
Junior Zach Bubonovich earned a pair of first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.15) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.12). Sophomore Austin Cutcher also had two first place performances in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:49.76) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.54). Junior Jack Greiner tallied two first place showings in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.41) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.43).
Sophomore Will Clark earned first place in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.12. Junior Jack Greiner placed first in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:57.41. Junior Alex Michael and senior Rory Hess were first (52.16) and second (52.35) in the 100-yard butterfly.
In the diving events, freshman Griffin Casey collected a 327.53 score on the three-meter board for first place with sophomore Luke Parada finished second at 256.95. Casey (306.98) and Parada (276.30) were first and second in the one-meter dive.
Holy Cross will host Connecticut College (3-2) on Senior Day this coming Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.

WORCESTER, MASS. – The Providence College men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs returned from their winter training trip in Puerto Rico and resumed dual-meet competition at Holy Cross on Jan. 18 in Worcester, Mass. The Friar men’s team was defeated 161.5-134.5, while the women’s team was defeated, 188-111.
The men’s team claimed four first-place individual finishes at the meet and swept the two relay events. Alex Beauchene led the way with two individual victories in the 200-yard free (1:44.59) and the 100-yard free (47.36).
Lauren Wagner highlighted the women’s competition, claiming two individual wins in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.20) and the 200-yard IM (2:12.21). The women’s team have five second-place finishes in individual events and fielded teams that finished second in both relays.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25 in their final home meet of the year against the University of Maine. Diving events will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the swim events at 1:00 p.m. The meet also serves as the backdrop for the program’s senior day festivities.
