Holy Cross Men & Women Earn Repeat Wins At Worcester City Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. – For the fifth straight year, the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team won the Worcester City Championship on Saturday hosted by WPI in the Sports & Recreation Center.

Holy Cross kept the Callie Taffe trophy on The Hill scoring 961.5 points and the top slot. WPI (725), Assumption (585), and Clark (470.5) rounded out the field. The Crusaders five consecutive championships started back in 2018-19, continued in 2019-20, and had a break in competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020-21 before winning in 2021-22 and last year (2022-23).

Sophomore Ainsley Nalen earned the Cathy Desrosiers Award given to the Female Swimmer of the Meet. Nalen set two individual meet records in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.27) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.94). Nalen smashed a few more marks in relays during the 400-yard medley (4:02.92) and then the 200-yard medley (1:50.72).

Senior Greta Walting (100-yard breaststroke, 1:05.56) and freshmen Devin Brindle (100-yard butterfly, 58.74) and Courtney Boghosian (200-yard backstroke, 2:07.89) set new meet marks in their respective events individually. Brindle and Boghosian shattered 10-year records. The trio also became the new meet leaders in the 400-yard medley relay (4:02.92) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.72).

Senior Katelyn Cerulli brought home the Beth Ferraro Award for the Female Diver of the Meet marking the third year in a row she’s earned the honor. She a first place performance in the three-meter dive (254.90) and second place in the one-meter dive (248.90).

The Crusaders will be back at home in the Hart Center Pool on Friday, Oct. 27 when they take on Binghamton in a dual meet starting at 5 p.m.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team brought home their second consecutive Worcester City Championship on Saturday competing at WPI’s Sports & Recreation Center.

Holy Cross tallied 965 points while fellow City of the Seven Hills schools WPI (848), Clark (441) and Assumption (257) rounded out the field. The Crusaders won The Paul Parenteau trophy for the second straight season following a 10-year drought.

Senior Charlie Nascimben earned the Justin Ferris Award given to the Male Swimmer of the Meet. Nascimben smashed two Worcester City Championship individual records in the 200-yard medley (1:54.54) and the 100-yard freestyle (46.86). The 100-yard freestyle was last set in 2004 by Holy Cross’ Scott Rimm (47.07).

Nascimben was also part of three relay teams that set meet records in the 400-yard medley relay (3:32.27), the 200-yard medley relay (1:36.78) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.02).

Sophomore Zach Bubonovich set a City Championship mark in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.20) and earned two relay victories in the 200-yard medley (1:36.78) and the 400-yard medley (3:32.27).

Freshman Luke Parada picked up the Whit Griffith Award for the Male Diver of the Meet. The newcomer placed first in the one-meter dive (292.80) which established a new program record brought home first on the three-meter board (245.30).

The Crusaders will be back at home in the Hart Center Pool on Friday, Oct. 27 when they take on Binghamton in a dual meet starting at 5 p.m.
