Heat Sheets Day 3: No Coughlin in Women’s 200 IM

  1 Braden Keith | June 27th, 2012

Perhaps realizing two days into the trials that she needed to save her best bullets for her best shots, Natalie Coughlin decided to scratch the 200 IM on Wednesday to focus both on the 100 back final, and to avoid overexerting before the 100 free, which might be her best chance anyway. I think this is the right move; with such a stacked 200 IM final, it was going to be a long-shot to crack the top two even if she were swimming well.

Full Start List here.

Aside from Coughlin in that women’s 200 IM, the men’s 200 fly and women’s 200 freestyles are basically in-tact from the original psych sheets. Wednesday’s finals are a very fast session, expected to run just over two hours.

I see Crippen is back on the heat sheets for the 2Free and 2IM. Any news on if she is feeling any better? It would be awesome to see her make the team in the 2Fly.
