Baltimore — Max Verheyen won two individual races on Sunday afternoon as the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving teams competed against Mount Saint Mary’s.
The women’s swimming and diving team won 189-101, while the men’s team won 224-69.
Pool and Program Records
– Max Verheyen, Pat Hayburn, and Joe Hayburn all broke both pool and program records on Sunday afternoon.
– Verheyen set the pool and program record in the 100 IM with a time of 50.03.
– Pat Hayburn also set the pool and program record in the 50 Fly with a time of 21.46.
– Lastly, Joe Hayburn set the pool and program record in the 50 Back with a time of 22.05.
Verheyen Takes Two
– Verheyen won two individual events for the Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon, winning in the 200 Yard Freestyle and in the 100 Yard IM.
– In the 200 Yard Freestyle, he won over his teammate, Harry Hearn, 1:39.94 to 1:41.15. In the 100 Yard IM, Verheyen had a narrow win over teammate Patrick Hayburn, 50.03 to 50.36.
First Place Finishes
– The men’s swimming and diving team won all but one race on Sunday afternoon.
– In total, 10 different swimmers won individual races, with Verheyen as the lone swimmer to win multiple.
– The women’s swimming and diving team tallied8 individual race wins on Sunday afternoon, by 8 different swimmers.
Diving Sweep
– The men’s and women’s divers swept the diving wins on Sunday afternoon.
– In the women’s 3 meter dive, Calista Fasser won with a score of 221.85. In the 1 meter dive, Fasser also won with a score of 227.25.
– In the men’s 1 meter dive, Thomas McCarthy won with a 252.15. Sam Hersick won in the 3 meter dive with a score of 263.18.
Relay Wins
– The mens 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Henry Mueller, Michael Gozdan, Patrick Hayburn, and Joey Zellner finished in first place with a time of 1:30.56.
– To wrap up the meet, the men’s 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Joe Hayburn, Hans Van Lierop, Liam Schindler, and Pierre Leroy finished in first place with a time of 1:24.76.

Baltimore. Md. (January 28th, 2024) – Mount St. Mary’s traveled to Baltimore, Md. this weekend to compete in a dual meet against Loyola University. The Mountaineers are headed home with a loss after the women’s team fell 189-101, while the men lost 224-69. This dual meet concludes the Mountaineers 2023-24 regular season as they look to make an impact at the MAAC Championships beginning on Tuesday, February 13th.
The women opened the day with a first-place nod in the 200-yard Medley relay after swimmers Lauren Wetzel, Christina Lazari, Meghan Speicher, and Maddy Samuels tallied a time of 1:44.58. Lazari highlighted the women’s performance with two solo first place finishes in the 50-Breaststroke (29.08) and the 100-breast (1:04.72) while also assisting her team in two first place finishes in the team relay events. Heading into the seventh event with some steam after a Samuels second place finish in the 200-Freestyle event, Hanna Aggen earned first in the 50-Backstroke with a finals time of 27.17 seconds. Speicher followed with a second-place nod in the 50-free with a finals time of 24.37 seconds. Wetzel also claimed a first-place nod in the 100-IM after tallying a time of 1:00.36. The women closed their day on a high note after swimmers Samuels, Speicher, Aggen, and Lazari finished first in the 200-free relay with a finals time of 1:36.97.
The men weren’t so fortunate in their opening event as they finished third as swimmers Jason Fitch, Adan Grady, Jacob Wallace, and Austin Toland tallied a finals time of 1:32.32. Freshman, John Fahrney, placed second in the 1000-Free after tallying a time of 10:39.76. This, followed by a Wallace third place nod in the 50-Breast with a finals time of 25.87 seconds while Liam Rooney finished second two events later in the 100-Butterfly, with a finals time of 52.26 seconds. However, Lucas Hancock and Toland claimed the two top spots in the 50-free after Toland finished first (20.79) while Hancock was second (21.26). The men closed their day with a second-place finish in the 200-free relay as swimmers Nicholas Santorelli, Hancock, Wallace, and Toland tallied a finals time of 1:25.37.
Timothy Bonner was the Mount’s solo diver today, Bonner finished fourth among six opponents in the men’s 3-meter dive with a finals score of 192.23. The graduate student cemented huis name in the record books with this performance, trumping the previous record set by Eiann Bulatao in 2018 at the CCSA Championships.

The Mountaineers look ahead to February 13th, where they are set to compete in the MAAC Championships, in Geneva, Ohio beginning at 10:00 a.m. (more information to follow in the coming weeks).
