Grand Valley State Grabs In-State Commitment From Brooke Elenbaas

Michigan native Brooke Elenbaas has announced her verbal commitment to swim for Grand Valley State University in the NCAA, where she’ll start as a freshman during the 2017-18 season. Elenbaas, who brings a lot versatility to the table with her range of events, trains club with the West Michigan Swimmers in East Lansing. She’s currently a senior at Zeeland East High School, so she’ll be pretty close by when she moves to Grand Rapids to start swimming at Grand Valley State.

On her commitment:

“I loved the campus! Grand Valley has great academic programs especially for the field that I am interested in. The team was very nice and welcoming. I can’t wait to be a part of it!”

At the 2016 Michigan Girls Division 1 State Championships this past November, Elenbaas represented her school in the 100 fly and 200 IM individually. She swam to a 22nd place finish in the 100 fly and a 29th place finish in the 200 IM at that meet. Her 59.05 in the 100 fly was a new personal best time, and her 2:12.73 in the 200 IM was just about a tenth shy of her best.

Elenbaas’ Top Times:

  • 50 yard free- 25.29
  • 100 yard free- 53.92
  • 100 yard back- 1:02.17
  • 100 yard breast- 1:10.72
  • 100 yard fly- 59.05
  • 200 yard IM- 2:12.60
