German Sprinter Rafael Miroslaw, European Jr Champ, Chooses Indiana for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

German sprinter Rafael Miroslaw has announced his verbal commitment to Indiana University. He’ll be part of their class of 2025.

TOP TIMES (LCM/SCY conv.)

  • 50 free – 23.19 / 20.17
  • 100 free – 49.54 / 43.18
  • 200 free – 1:48.69 / 1:35.03
  • 400 free – 3:57.87 / 4:26.52
  • 100 fly – 55.77 / 48.98

Miroslaw has competed at the senior international level, joining Germany’s 4×200 free relay at the 2019 World Championships. There, he swam the second leg in prelims and finals, and Germany finished eighth overall. His best split was a 1:46.89 from prelims, which converts to 1:33.41 in yards.

At the 2019 European Junior Championships, Miroslaw led off the German team’s mixed 4×100 free relay in 49.54, helping them to the gold medal and meet record. He was the boys’ 4×200 free relay anchor (1:49.05) as they won the silver medal. He was also 49.93 to take third in the 100 free prelims, but he didn’t swim after semifinals.

Miroslaw is a great sprint pickup for the Hoosiers, and while he doesn’t quite have drop-dead sprint speed right now, his 100/200 combo is very impressive. With his converted times, he would’ve been a 2020 B1G A-finalist in the 200 free and a B-finalist in the 100 free.

Indiana will lose sprinter Bruno Blaskovic, the 2020 B1G champion in the 50 free and 100 free and runner-up in the 100 fly, after next season. Then, Miroslaw will have a season of overlap with Jack Franzman and two seasons with Brendan Burns.

Miroslaw will join Sean Swift, Mason Carlton, Lucas Piunti, #3 Joshua Matheny, #15 Luke Barr and HM Jackson Carlile in the class of 2025.

Bethel de-commit from IU.

Heard another 2021 also de-commit from IU. Maybe something to do with skinner’s departure?

Might be something to do with how early recruiting is, not fair to anyone being so early. Kids don’t know what they want being 16 yrs old.
