A multiple-time finalist at the Florida high school state championships, Fina Hickmon of Naples, Florida has announced her decision to swim at Georgia Southern University beginning next fall. Hickmon is currently a senior at Naples High School while swimming club with T2 Aquatics.
In 2022, Hickmon competed in state championship meets in two different states, finishing her sophomore year at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado in the spring before moving to Naples in the fall. At the 2022 CHSAA Swimming and Diving State Championships, she qualified to race both the 50 free and 200 free. Her top finish came in the 200, with the sophomore taking thirty-first with a time of 25.28.
Hickmon then finished her first high school state meet in Florida as a two-event finalist at the 22022 FHSAA 3A Swimming and Diving State Championships. At that meet, she competed in both the 100 free and 200 free, earning finals appearances in both. Her top finish came in the 100, where she took eight in finals in 53.02. She finished thirteenth in the B-final (1:56.25) of the 200 free.

Even with her entire senior year of high school left to improve, Hickmon is already set to be a huge addition to the Georgia Southern sprint group for the fall. Last season, her lifetime bests in the 50 and 100 would have put her among the program’s top four performers while her time in the 200 free would have been the team’s fifth fastest.
Last season, Georgia Southern was led in the sprint events by current junior Abby Wenham. At the 2023 CCSA Swimming and Diving Conference Championships, Wenham was a B-finalist in the 50 free and C-finalist in the 100 free. Hickmon will have one year of overlap with Wenham when she arrives on campus next fall.
This fall, Georgia Southern will make its return to competition in the Sun-Belt Conference after the Sun Belt announced it would be hosting a conference championship for swimming and diving following a ten-year hiatus. The conference will also feature James Madison, Marshall, and Old Dominion.
