FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State picked up 10 individual swimming event wins, won both diving events, and claimed the 200 Medley Relay en route to a 189-104 dual victory over Pacific on Saturday at the Fresno State Aquatics Center. Pacific was scheduled to host the meet but it was moved to Fresno due to air quality concerns in Stockton.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 in duals this season, winning 13 of 16 events for the second consecutive dual meet. Freshman Brenda Diaz Martinez led the ‘Dogs with three event wins, claiming first in the 500 and 1000 Free as well as the 200 IM, while Ugne Mazutaityte and Manuela Mendolicchio were both victorious in two individual races. Senior Kelli Funk continued her dominance on the diving boards winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Swimming Highlights
- Diaz Martinez won her first individual race in the 1000 Free, touching in 10:19.61 with sophomore Darina Khisiamova taking third. Diaz Martinez went on to win the 200 IM in 2:09.96, just ahead of teammate Lucy Davies, and the freshman made it three wins in three races claiming the 500 Free with a time of 5:03.13.
- Mazutaityte won both backstroke events, taking the 100 Back in 57.55 with Emma Monnich claiming second place. In the 200 Back, Mazutaityte won in 2:02.50 with Emily Cutler in second place, and Ugne was also the top Bulldog finisher in the 200 Free in third place.
- Mendolicchio claimed her first win in the 100 Breast in 1:04.24. She won the 200 Breast race as well, touching at 2:15.89 while Davies placed second in 2:19.63.
- In the butterfly events, Bulldog senior Gabbie Libang picked up another victory, touching in 56.30 to win the 100 Fly with Kimberly Harbert second. In the 200 Fly, Zofia Niemczak tallied the win in 2:04.75 with Libang just behind in second.
- Senior Osianna McReed picked up a victory in the 50 Free in 23.90 with Cutler second. McReed was also the top Bulldog in the 100 Free, placing second with Harbert third.
- The ‘Dogs began the meet with a relay win as the team of Cutler, Mendolicchio, Harbert, and McReed won the 200 Medley Relay in 1:45.02.
Diving Highlights
- Each team had two divers in the 1-meter competition while just one representative of each team competed on 3-meter.
- Funk claimed first on 1-meter with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 267.68 while teammate Irina Nikolaeva returned from injury for her first competition of the season and placed second scoring 263.25. Both Bulldog divers scored more than 100 points higher than the two Pacific divers.
- Funk and Pacific’s Alexis Albanese were the only 3-meter divers and Funk won it easily with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 282.60 while Albanese scored 155.18.

“I’m really pleased. We had a dual meet two weeks ago and then some time off and the air quality was not the best but we raced really well. We’ve had four girls on the injured list and today was really their first solid meet where they all got to compete, and they’re four of our top girls so it was nice to have them back. With them back we have a really solid balance.”

Fresno State will take part in the three-day UNLV Invitational Nov. 29-Dec. 1 in Las Vegas.

FRESNO, Calif. – The women’s swimming and diving team put up a valiant fight but fell short in their dual meet to Fresno State, 189-104 Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers took three events in their nonconference friendly against the Bulldogs winning the 400 free relay, 100 freestyle, and 200 freestyle events.
Meredith Lillie led the way for the Orange and Black pacing her team with a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay event as well as finishing first in the 100 free.
“We swam a bit frenetic today and even though the results didn’t necessarily show it I’m really proud of the way we performed today,” Head Coach Pete Richardson stated. “With how hectic things were this week moving practice and dealing with the air quality we fought and we raced.”
In Case You Missed It:
- Meredith Lillie highlighted the day for UOP placing in the top three or better in all four of her events on Saturday (50 free, 100 free, 200 medley, 400 free relay). Lillie took home a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle event clocking in a time of 53:06. The senior swimmer totaled 27 points to lead UOP.
- Brigid McNally stayed steady in the distance events for the Tigers placing second in the 1000 free (10:29.47), third in the 200 IM (2:10.03), and third in the 500 free event (5:08.99). McNally had the fastest split time of any Tiger in the 200 IM with 29.79.
- “Brigid performed very well and I thought she proved her toughness today because of how many events she swam,” said Richardson.
- Elina Rosario flourished in the 100 breaststroke finishing second overall with a time of 1:04.67.
- Freshman Kelsey Lloyd set a season-best in the 200 breast event with a 2:22.22 time. Lloyd’s time was good enough for third place in the event.
- Alexis Albanese and Cassandra Middlestead carried the Tigers on the platform. Albanese finished second in the 3 mtr event with a score of 155.18. Middlestead contributed a third place finish in the 1 mtr with a 159.60 score.
Up Next For the Tigers:
- The Tigers have a full week off before heading to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invite.
- The meet is set for this upcoming Nov. 29th-Dec. 1st.
- “Our main focus moving forward now is getting to where we want to be heading into UNLV,” Richardson said.
