SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Fresno State won 12 of 14 events and totaled 31 top-three finishes in a dominant 186-75 road dual victory over San Diego on Saturday morning.
Manuela Mendolicchio won all three events she swam in while Emily Cutler and Kimberly Harbert each won two swimming events. Irina Nikolaeva claimed first place in the only diving event on 1-meter.
Fresno State earned a dual win at San Diego for the fourth consecutive season in its final road meet before the conference championship. The ‘Dogs are now 5-2 in dual meets this year with two home duals remaining in the regular season.
Swimming Highlights
- Mendolicchio won early and often in victories in all three of her races. In the second event of the day, she won by more than two seconds with a time of 1:05.17 in the 100 Breast. She later added a win in the 200 IM in 2:10.26 and closed her day by winning the 200 Breast by more than five seconds in 2:19.36. Teammate Lucy Davies placed second in all three of those races and Emileigh Stock had a third place finish in the 200 Breast.
- Cutler won the first race of the day with a season-best time of 58.12 in the 100 back to narrowly touch ahead of Ugne Mazutaityte and Stephanie Bartel. Cutler also won the 200 Free in 1:57.28 while Zofia Niemczak was second.
- Harbert won both of the butterfly races, first taking the top spot with a time of 56.75 in the 100 Fly as teammates Gabbie Libang and Osianna Mcreed tied for third. In the 200 Fly, Harbert won in 2:04.69 and Libang came in third.
- Mazutaityte would win the 200 Back in 2:04.21 with Darina Khisiamova second and Cutler third and Niemczak claimed first place in the 500 Free with Emma Monnich third.
- The Bulldogs got another win in the 1650 Free as Brenda Diaz Martinez touched first in 17:36.47 and Khisiamova placed second
- Fresno State also won the only relay of the meet as the ‘A’ team of Harbert, McReed, Tonya Guryeva, and Cutler claimed the 200 Free Relay in 1:37.04.
Diving Highlights
- After notching a 3-meter diving win on Friday at San Diego State, Nikolaeva earned her second 1-meter win of the season on Saturday in the only diving event of the meet.
- The Bulldog junior won the competition with a score of 178.37 and teammate Kelli Funk was second scoring 170.63. San Diego’s lone competing diver, Catherine McCarthy, scored 105.59 in third place.
What’s Next
- Fresno State has two remaining home dual meets in preparation for the MW Championship. The ‘Dogs will celebrate Senior Day when they host UC Davis next Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Fresno State Aquatics Center at 1 p.m.
