Free/Back Specialist Erkan Ozgen Commits to Ball State

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Erkan Ozgen from Burr Ridge, Illinois has announced his commitment to swim for Ball State University in the class of 2025. Ozgen will head to Muncie, Indiana next fall.

“I am honored to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic careers at Ball State University. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, teammates and friends for the constant support and help to achieve this goal. I am extremely excited to see what this opportunity has in store. #WeFly”

Ozgen swam for Hinsdale Central High School and focused mainly on freestyle events. In club swimming, where he represents Hinsdale Swim Club, he tends to specialize in the 50-through-200 free and back. He recently competed in the 50/100 free and 50 back at 2021 NCSA Spring Championship, earning lifetime bests in the 100 free and 50 back. His best 50 free time also comes from March 2021, when he went 21.25 at the WSC Silver Boys Championships. He notched PBs in the 200/500 free last fall at an HSC dual meet, and in the LCM 50 free (24.98), 100 free (55.76), 200 free (2:01.40), and 100 back (1:02.21) last summer at an intrasquad meet.

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 21.25
  • 100 free – 46.71
  • 200 free – 1:44.62
  • 500 free – 4:54.93
  • 50 back – 23.73
  • 100 back – 53.96
  • 200 back – 2:06.93

Ball State finished 4th of 5 teams at the 2021 Mid-American Conference Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. The MAC only scores 2 finals but Ozgen’s best times would have scored this year in the B finals of the 50 free. He will overlap with A-finalist Jack Wolfred (20.53) and B-finalists Joey Garberick (20.55), Owen Chaye (20.70), Jared Holder (21.05), and Bryce Handshoe (21.18).

He also would have made the B final in the 100 and back but it took 45.86 in the 100 free, 1:40.68 in the 200 free, 4:37.10 in the 500 free, to score at conference this season.
