Former MIT Assistant Aaron Green Joins Villanova Coaching Staff

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova Swimming and Diving Head Coach Rick Simpson announced Thursday the addition of Aaron Green to his coaching staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome Aaron to the Villanova Swimming and Diving family,” Simpson said. “AJ comes to the Main Line with a wealth of collegiate and club coaching experience. He will have an immediate impact on the development of all our student-athletes.”

Green comes to Villanova after spending the last season at MIT as the men’s and women’s swimming and diving assistant coach. Before joining the coaching ranks, he logged a decorated swimming career at Widener University where he was an Honorable Mention All-American in the 50 and 100 Free. He also earned high honors from the Middle Atlantic Conference all four years, becoming the program’s first-ever three-time MAC Men’s Swimmer of the Year honoree.

“I’m super excited to join the atmosphere and environment that has already been created by the coaches here at Villanova,” Green said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of a group that works to be stronger together and hope that I can bring in some new strengths to help the program do just that.”

Green was a part of an MIT staff that saw great success from its group in the 2023-24 season, highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships by the women’s team along with a pair of National Champions and a National Record performer in the 100 Back. He helped coach the program to NEWMAC Conference Championships in 2024 on both the men’s and women’s side, earning conference Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Throughout the season, the Engineers combined for 17 school and pool records.

Prior to his time at MIT, Green was the head coach at Arcadia University. He guided the team to a runner-up showing on the men’s side at the MAC Championships and a fourth-place finish for the women. The Knights combined for 32 All-Conference selections in that 2022-23 season, 12 for the women and 20 for the men.

Green’s coaching experience began at Hollins University where he became the head coach in June 2021 after two seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Lynchburg. At Lynchburg, he was a part of a staff that was named the ODAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2021 after guiding the women to a conference title and a runner-up finish for the men. He earned his Masters in Higher Education Leadership while at Lynchburg.

Green graduated from Widener in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies: Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. He had a successful swimming career with the Pride where he was a three-time MAC Swimmer of the Year after earning Rookie of the Year status in 2016. He was also the University’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2019.
