Flyer Ollie Bernasek Makes Verbal Commitment to Notre Dame

Ollie Bernasek, a senior at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame for 2020-21. Other members of the class of 2024 include Joe Hunt, Liam Smith, Luke Uttley, and Sean Faikish.

Bernasek swims for Gonzaga College High School and Machine Aquatics. He was runner-up in the 100 fly (50.68) and 9th in the 200 free (1:41.93) at Washington Metros Prep League Championships and he earned a PB in the 50 free leading off the Gonzaga 200 free relay. He won the 200 IM (1:56.91) at Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championships. At Eastern Interscholastics, he swam the 100 fly (13th) and 100 free (15th). The rest of his best SCY times (100/200 free and 50/100/200 fly) come from NCSA Spring Championship where he placed 31st in the 200 fly. This summer, he went best times in the LCM 50/100/200 free and 50/100/200 fly at NCSA Summer Championship. He finaled in the 100 free and all three butterfly distances and had significant year-over-year time drops across the board: -.4 in the 50 free, -4.8 in the 100 free, -.8 in the 50 fly, -1.9 in the 100 fly, and -5.2 in the 200 fly.

  • 200 fly – 1:50.66
  • 100 fly – 50.52
  • 50 fly – 23.37
  • 200 free – 1:40.86
  • 100 free – 46.88
  • 50 free – 21.52

The Fighting Irish finished 6th of 12 teams at 2019 ACC Men’s Championships. It took 1:45.68 to make the C final of the 200 fly, in which Notre Dame had three freshmen (now sophomores): Zachary Smith, Max Miranda, and Marton Barta.
