Class 2A Regional Meet Highlights

Bayshore sophomore Ryley Ober got the job done at the region 3 meet, setting herself up as the top seed for the state meet in the middle distance freestyles. So far, Ober is looking dominant in the 200 free with her 1:50.36 from regionals. Her 4:53.81 seed in the 500 free sets up a good race with Gulliver Prep’s Marcella Ruppert-Gomez, who won region 4 with her 4:53.84.

American Heritage’s Catharine Cooper and St. Brendan’s Irvin Hoost are the current leaders in the sprints after sweeping the sprint free races at the region 4 meet. Hoost clocked a 20.88 in the 50 free and a 46.29 in the 100 free, giving him the only sub-21 seed in the 50. Cooper, on the other hand, popped a 23.52 to win the 50 free before going on to clock a 51.97 victory in the 100 free.

Gulliver Prep’s Emily Cordovi and Miguel Cancel each claimed top seed in one of their events after their performances at the region 4 meet. Cordovi leads the girls’ 100 fly with her region-winning 55.16, while Cancel leads the 200 IM with his 1:51.40. Both swimmers met the AA-C standards in their respective events.
