FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept all events against the Manhattan College Jaspers on Saturday afternoon as both programs improved to 4-1 in dual meets this season. Joseph Stewart and Hans Lim each picked up a pair of wins during the day while Erini Pappas and Alison Sposili also garnered two victories during the meet. The women won their meet by a 243-28 score while the men took their competition by a 244-29 margin.
Stewart’s events included the 100 free (53.04) and the 200 free (1:55.0) while Lim secured his success in the 200 IM (2:11.65) and the 200 fly (2:10.89). Pappas collected her first-place swims in the 200 fly (2:22.69) and the 200 back (2:19.65). Sposili touched the wall first in both the 100 breast (1:17.60) and the 200 breast (2:42.92).
Gabriella Tejeda (9:50.19) and Olivia Thompson (10:22.51) took the top two places in the 800 free, the same placements that were picked up Joey Nizzardo (8:41.06) and Tim Regan (843.42). Serafina Viola (2:13.47) and Cailey Stockwell (2:14.48) occupied first and second in the 200 free while Stewart and Ed Hunt (1:58.29) reciprocated on the men’s side. The same results went forward in the 100 back as Holly Rahurahu (1:07.80) and Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj (1:08.95) representing the Stags for the women’s race and Ollie McLaughlin (59.49) and Patrick Gill (59.59) were in the lanes for the men’s race.
The trend continued with Sposili and Caroline Krawec (1:17.85) as well as Chris Ford (school record 1:02.35) and Jeffrey Vlass (1:07.87) taking part in the 100 breast. Pappas joined Erin Hoyland for the two top places in the 200 fly for the women with Lim and Joey Nizzardo (2:15.83) taking first and third respectively in the same event. The 50 free was highlighted by the first and third place finishes by Lily Barker (27.80) and Paige Miro (30.03) and first and second place swims by Alex Belfer (23.46) and Peter Gori (24.49). Sydney Scalise (1:00.95) and Serafina Viola (1:01.31) garnered the top two times in the 100 free while Stewart and Peter Gori (53.47) did the same in the event.
Pappas and Courtney (2:27.08) swept one and two in the 200 back while Ryan Schuller (2:11.33) and Jay Parente (2:17.35) owned the two best times in the men’s race. Sposili and Tejeda (2:52.89) took first and second in the 200 breast with Jeffrey Vlass (2:25.39) and Lim (2:32.38) mirrored those results. The 400 free saw Hoyland (4:36.84) and Scalise (4:45.98) enjoyed success in the 400 free while Regan (4:08.67) and Nizzardo (4:21.14) grabbed the top two times for the men. Olivia Thompson (1:09.07) and Courtney (1:10.52) rewarded the team with a sweep of the 100 fly, something that Evan Fair (school record 56.09) and Stewart (1:00.30) reciprocated in the event
The 200 IM was also a sweep of the top two spots for the Stags as Maggie O’Donnell (2:29.65) and Stockwell (2:31.12) swam for the women’s squad and Lim (2:11.65) and Schuller (2:12.94) being in the water for the men’s squad. Sam Tonole swept the men’s diving events, scoring 253.70 points in the 1 meter and 251.60 points in the 3 meter. Alexis Gaulin also earned first place in the same events, registering 251.85 points in the 1 meter and 235.85 points in the 3 meter.
The Stags will return to the pool on Saturday, January 21 when they travel to Iona College on January 21. The dual meet is scheduled for a 1 pm start.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Manhattan women’s swimming and diving team fell to Fairfield on Saturday. The final score was 243-28.
For individual races, Kyla Guilfoil placed third in the 100-meter backstroke with a final time of 1:09.88, .93 seconds behind second place. Guilfoil came home fourth (2:31.91) in the 200-meter back stroke. Guilfoil scored five points for the women with those two finishes. Abbey Mink placed second in the 50-meter freestyle with a final time of 27.83, with first place only .03 seconds ahead, and finished third in the 100-meter free (1:02.73). Mink’s finishes added seven points to the Jaspers’ total. MacKenzie Tuttle scored four points for Manhattan with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter breast stroke and fifth in the 200-meter IM.
For the relay events, Manhattan placed fourth in the 200-meter medley relay with a finishing time of 2:09.58, scoring two points for the Jaspers. Manhattan also finished third in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a final time of 1:55.97, which scored another two points for the Jaspers.
The Jaspers race again for their last meet of the regular season, Saturday, Jan 28 at 1 p.m., against Iona at the Horace Mann School in Riverdale, N.Y.

For individual races, Branden Deiss placed third in the 800-meter freestyle with a final time of 9:13.77, scoring three points for the Jaspers. Deiss also scored two points with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle. Andrew Lebak placed fourth in the 100-meter backstroke with a final time of 1:02.72, only .39 seconds behind third. Abel Cartagena swam three times for the Jaspers. Caragena placed second in the 200-meter butterfly, fourth in the 200-meter IM, and sixth in the 100-meter back stroke and earned Manhattan seven points. Jonathan Carsen placed fourth in the 100-meter butterfly, earning Manhattan two points.
For team events, Manhattan placed third in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a finishing time of 1:43.95. It was a close race for second with only a .17 second difference. Manhattan also placed fifth in the 200-meter medley relay with a final time of 1:53.95.
The Jaspers race again for their last meet of the regular season, Saturday, Jan 28 at 1 p.m., against Iona in Riverdale, N.Y.
