Distance Freestyler Avery King Commits to Niagara

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Avery King from Macungie, Pennsylvania has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Niagara University beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Niagara University! Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have helped me throughout the process. I would also like to thank Coach Eric and the team for welcoming me with open arms. Go Purple Eagles!!”

King swims for Parkland Aquatic Club (PAAC) out of Breinigsville, PA. Over the summer, she earned multiple long course best times while at the Niagara Senior Zone Championships. Those times included the 200 (2:12.38), 400 (4:35.68), and 800 (9:33.38) freestyles.

She has already continued her success into the winter season as she earned numerous best times in the middle of December. Those times included the 200 (1:55.72), 1000 (10:31.94), and 1650 (17:34.04) freestyles.

She is in the middle of her senior year at Emmaus High School in Emmaus, PA.

Her best short course yards time are:

  • 200 freestyle: 1:55.72
  • 500 freestyle: 5:05.81
  • 1000 freestyle: 10:31.94
  • 1650 freestyle: 17:34.04

Niagara University is a private university located in Lewiston, New York. The team is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Head coach Eric Bugby is in his second season with the team.

The MAAC did not host an official conference championship in 2021 due to COVID-19. The team finished seventh out of ten teams at the 2020 MAAC Championships. Based on her best times, King has the potential to make a huge immediate impact for the Purple Eagles. Her times would have earned her a spot in the top eight of the 500 and 1650 freestyles as well as top 16 in the 200 freestyle. She also would have been the team’s highest finisher in all three events.

Her times also have the potential to make school history (based on results prior to this season) as her best times would give her the school record in the 500 freestyle. She would already be second in school history in the 200, 1000, and 1650 freestyles.

The Purple Eagles are a program that has made great strides recently. This season, the men’s and women’s programs earned a total of 19 new school records at the Zippy Invitational in November. Those new program records included Moana Houde-Camirand breaking the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:05.07. King will arrive on campus next fall just in time as Houde-Camirand is a senior this season.

King will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Anna Brauer, Ania Bodyl, Chloe Vlaeminck, Madelyn Hudson, Anessa Hanson, and Rachel Gardner.
