ITHACA, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving team won eight events but it was not enough as the Bonnies were defeated by Cornell, 164-136, Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y.

Rachel Kimmel and reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week Katrina Wardner paced the Bonnies, winning two individual events each.

Kimmel’s first win came in the 100-breaststroke, where she turned in a time of 1:04.00 to win the event. She followed that by winning the 200-breaststroke to sweep both breaststroke events, just as she did a week ago at the Atlantic 10 Classic, clocking in at 2:20.19.

Wardner won back-to-back events, earning her first win in the 100-butterfly with a time of 58.05. Minutes later in the 200-IM, the junior swam a victorious time of 2:07.40.

Also claiming individual victories for the Bonnies were Claire SchaefMia CoteIvana Janssen and Zanre Oberholzer. Schaef won the 1000-freestyle in 10:37.93 while Mia Cote took first in the 200-butterfly, ringing in at 2:08.35. Janssen followed Cote by winning the very next event, earning the win in the 50-freestyle with a time of 24.48. Oberholzer was victorious in the 200-backstroke, finishing with a mark of 2:07.05.

The Bonnies are back in action Friday, Nov. 15 when they host Canisius to the Reilly Center Pool. Diving will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the swimming portion of the meet will start at 4:00 p.m.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior Hylton Collinson brought home a first-place finish along with two second-place efforts for the St. Bonaventure University men’s swimming and diving team at Cornell Saturday afternoon. It was not enough, however, as the Big Red defeated the Bonnies, 202.5-95.5 in dual meet competition.

Collinson, who was coming off a solid performance last weekend at the Atlantic 10 Classic, grabbed first in the 200-breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:08.10. The Johannesburg, South Africa native also finished second in the 200-butterfly (1:56.12) and the 200-IM (1:57.23).

Senior Nick Burdo had a strong day as well, taking victory in the 100-freestyle by ringing in at 47.82. He also earned two third-place finishes in the 200-freestyle (1:45.28) and 50-freestyle (21.88).

Junior Maciej Danilewski brought home second in the 200-backstroke with a time of 1:53.60. He took third in the 1000-freestyle (10:08.46) and 200-IM (1:59.23) as well.

Senior Joseph Malafronte grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-butterfly, touching the pad at 52.25.

In the 200-freestyle relay, William Lowe led teammates Alec ThomasMarcus Swartfager, and Joseph Malafronte to second place with a time of 1:26.66. Jason Green guided Griffin WitteTomas Botero, and Joshua Bannon to third in the same event (1:32.46).

The Bonnies also brought home a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay, led by junior Tjaard Krusch who touched the wall at 1:35.55. He was followed by teammates Hylton CollinsonJoseph Malafronte, and Nick Burdo. Krusch also finished third in the 100-backstroke with a time of 52.55.

On the diving boards, Matthew Bielobradek finished third in the 3-meter dive with a total score of 264.85. The sophomore also took third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 263.25.

The Bonnies are back in action Friday, Nov. 15 as they host Canisius for the first home meet of the season. Diving is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. while the swimming events will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center Pool.

ITHACA, N.Y. – In its first meet of the 2019-20 campaign, the Cornell men’s swimming and diving team dominated St. Bonaventure, winning 14 of a possible 16 events and downing the Bonnies, 202.5 to 95.5, on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Ithaca College’s Aquatics Pavilion in Ithaca, N.Y.

New and familiar Big Red faces teamed up on Saturday, with swimmers John Mahoney and Paige daCosta and diver Brett Hébert emerging as the big winners. Mahoney picked up right where he left off a season ago, winning the 50-yard freestyle (20.78) and 100-yard butterfly (50.23) events. He also teamed up with Dylan CurtisRyan Brown, and Ian Mackey in the 200-yard medley relay, helping the Big Red finish first in 1:33.81.

Paige daCosta started his collegiate swimming career on the right foot, notching victories in the 500-yard (4:39.96) and 1,000-yard (9:46.89) freestyle events. Several other newcomers found success, including Alan Li and Ryan Pirrung, who both won their respective events. Li finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.10), while Pirrung picked up a win in the 200-yard IM (1:56.73).

In the diving events, Hébert carried his momentum from the 2019 NCAA Zones meet into the 2019-20 season, winning both the 1-meter (310.90) and 3-meter (283.15) diving events. Jameson Crandell finished just behind in both competitions, placing second in the 1-meter (263.95) and 3-meter diving (274.05).

Other event winners on the day include Jack McSorley, who finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.90), and Jacob Mullin, who won the 100-yard backstroke (52.16). Mullin, along with Min Zhi Chua, Will Hrabchak, and James Huang, picked up a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:26.11.

In addition to swimming a leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay, Ryan Brown won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.69. After helping the 200-yard freestyle relay to victory, James Huang emerged victorious in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing the race in 1:51.65.

The Big Red men’s swimming and diving team will be back in action when it opens Ivy League competition against Harvard and Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. in Hanover, N.H.

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women’s swimming and diving team got its 2019-20 season off to a great start, beating St. Bonaventure, 164-136, on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Ithaca College’s Aquatics Pavilion in Ithaca, N.Y.

Highlighted by a pair of individual event wins from Sophia Cherkez and Demetra Williams, the Big Red won seven individual events en route to taking down the Bonnies.

Cherkez emerged victorious in the 100-yard (53.09) and 200-yard (1:53.95) freestyle events, and freshman Melissa Parker was right behind her in the 100-yard freestyle, placing second in 53.88.

Williams shined in the diving events, winning both the 1-meter (264.15) and 3-meter (266.40) competitions, and leading a Big Red squad that went 1-2-3 in the 3-meter. Jessica Leipman (241.10) and Elise Jendritz (235.05) posted strong 3-meter diving showings, placing second and third, respectively.

Back in the swimming events, Allison Chang and Annaklara Doel each recorded an individual event win of their own. Chang won the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 59.26. Doel got the victory in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing the race in 5:13.14.

Both Big Red relays also finished first, helping Cornell seal the deal and defeat the Bonnies. The Cornell 200-yard medley relay team of Isabel ChienCape Murch ElliotLexi Schaaf and Parker finished first with a time of 1:47.55. Individually, Chien excelled in the 100-yard backstroke as well, finishing second in 59.35.

In the second relay of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Big Red team of Vanessa Ruiz, Schaaf, Claire Liu, and Parker placed first after clocking in at 1:36.86. Ruiz (24.56) and Liu (24.74) also swam solid races in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing second and third, respectively.

The Big Red women’s swimming and diving team will be back in action when it faces its first Ivy League tests of the season against Harvard and Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. in Hanover, N.H.
