Commonwealth Countdown: No Women’s 1500, Men’s 800 In Gold Coast

The swimming portion of the 2018 Commonwealth Games hosted in Gold Coast, Australia is set to kick-off on Thursday, April 5th and run through Tuesday, April 10th. Para swimmers’ events will be intermingled with swimming events, with the 50m and 100m distance races running from prelims to semi-finals to finals, while 200m and longer race directly from prelims to finals.

In looking at the specific day-by-day racing schedule, the line-up opts out of including the newly-added Olympic events of the men’s 800m freestyle and women’s 1500m freestyle races. Additionally, there are no mixed relays incorporated into the schedule for 2018. Although these events haven’t been included in past Commonwealth Games editions, having them added to the schedule this year would have given Olympic hopefuls yet another big international stage on which to try out the new events with Tokyo 2020 now less than 900 days out.

Below is the event schedule for the 2018 Commonwealth Games’ swimming competition, with SwimSwam’s specific discipline previews rolling out shortly.
