NIAGARA, N.Y. – Cleveland State claimed their third straight dual meet victory on Friday afternoon, toppling Niagara 121-116. The Vikings will conclude the regular season on Saturday, January 28 at Oakland at 1 p.m.
“The team had a lot of fun today while showing true care for one another in their cheering,” said coach Burandt. By doing this, we created the opportunity for people to step outside their comfort zones and race with true confidence and grit. I’m excited to build off this as we have one dual race remaining. Taper and conference are right around the corner and this makes us even more excited for HL Championships.”
Brooke Eichel won both diving events, scoring 218.63 in 1m and 234.45 in 3m.
The Vikings grabbed the first-and-second spots in the 1000-yard freestyle with Mackenzie Lipnick (10:53.44) and Madison Taker (11:04.99).
In the 200-yard freestyle, Rachel Contich (1:57.46) claimed the top spot while Olivia Leonard (2:00.25) came in second.
Grace Chelf accounted for the Vikings next two individual wins, claiming the 50-yard freestyle (24.31) and 100-yard freestyle (53.69).
Holly White was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke after touching the wall in 1:00.88.
Lipnick won her second distance event of the afternoon after clocking a 5:16.98 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Grace Butcher (1:08.26) snuck out the win the 100-yard breaststroke, out-touching Amanda Silva (1:08.28) of Niagara.
Cleveland State ended the meet in style as Contich, Taker, White, and Chelf finished in 3:38.55.

For the second straight day, the Green and White opened the dual with a victory in the 200-yard medley as the team of Kenny Thomas, Griffin Manning, Thomas Lundin, and Connor Green registered a time of 1:32.88.
Jackson Nester (9:47.68) won the 1000-yard freestyle while Jake Taulbee took the runner-up spot after clocking a 9:48.17. In the 500-yard freestyle, Nester (4:42.54) again beat out Taulbee (4:49.78).
Cleveland State went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle with Nathen Eberhardt as the top finisher with a time of 1:42.28.
Thomas Lundin won the next two individual races; 200-yard IM (1:55.40) and 100-yard butterfly (50.67). In addition, the Green and White were first-through-third in the 200 IM.
The Vikings were 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke as Thomas won the event with a time of 51.63.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Manning took home the win after touching the wall in 57.20.
Cleveland State capped off the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Thomas, Josh Merchbaker, Spencer Tussing, and Eberhardt finished in 3:06.79.

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Cleveland State men’s and women’s swimming & diving swept Niagara Friday afternoon at Oxy Aquatic Center. The Niagara men fell 130-100, and the women were edged by the Vikings, 121-116.
Women’s Recap
• The Purple Eagles afternoon was highlighted by wins in the 200 medley relay, the 200 IM and 100 fly.
• Paige South, Amanda Silva, Zoe Gavin and Nia Thomas posted a time of 1:49.15 to win the 200 medley relay.
• Sophomore Megan Smith won the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.56. She also finished second in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.07, and third in the 100 breast at 1:08.85.
• The Purple Eagles took the top two spots in the 100 fly as Gavin won the event with a time of 59.29 and Kreeger followed with a time of 1:00.85.
• Sydney Sarkis finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, with scores of 201.60 and 199.58, respectively.
• Silva added to her win in the relay with a second-place finish in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:08.28, .02 seconds behind the winner.
• South, the reigning MAAC Swimmer of the Week, finished with a time of 24.41 in the 50 free to take second, followed by a third-place finish in the 100 free.
Men’s Recap
• The Purple Eagles afternoon was highlight by a sweep of the top-three spots in the 50 free. Kevin Vu win the event with a time of 21.00, followed by Levi Morgan and Gio Germano with times of 21.62 and 21.87, respectively.
• Furner won both diving events, posting scores of 272.03 and 165.45, on the 1- and 3-meter boards, respectively.
• Nathan Dragon and Reid Tichy went back-to-back in the 100 free, posting times of 47.01 and 47.29.
• Sean Finley collected a second-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 58.54.
• In the 200-medley relay, Germano, Finley, Vu and Dragon finished with a time of 1:34,14, for second place.
• Germano finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 51.02.

• Niagara will host Waterloo on Saturday, Jan. 14 at noon. Prior to the meet, Niagara will honor its two seniors, Kevin Vu and Morgan MacMahon.
