Clara Schlimper of Cypress, TX has verbally committed to swim for Gardner-Webb University beginning in the 2021-2022 season. Schlimper is a senior at UTRGV Math and Science Academy and she is a year-round swimmer at Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club.

️Last July, Schlimper competed at the 2019 Southern Zone Senior Championships. She swam the 400 free, 200 breast, 100 and 200 fly, and 200 and 400 IM at the long course meet. She made it back in the D-final of the 100 fly, the C-final of the 200 IM, the B-final of the 400 free and 200 breast, and the A-final of the 200 fly and 400 IM. She touched 8th in 200 fly and 6th in the 400 IM.
Schlimper ended the meet with personal best times in the 200 and 400 IM, the 200 breast, and the 50 fly which came from the first 50 of her 100 fly.

- 200 fly – 2:05.58
- 100 breast – 1:07.91
- 200 breast – 2:26.49
- 200 IM – 2:09.10
- 400 IM – 4:33.12
Schlimper will have an immediate impact on Gardner-Webb’s team. During the 2019-2020 season, Mary Traylor was the only Bulldog to have swum the 200 fly and she will have graduated in the spring of 2021, before Schlimper arrives on campus. Similarly, the team’s top breaststrokers Jennifer Jackson and Jessi Snover will also have graduated before Schlimper’s arrival. Her 200 breast time would have been the team’s fastest last season. Finally, she will be a top IM swimmer as Traylor, Spencer Lucas, and Snover will all be gone.
Schlimper’s top times would have placed her in the B-final of the 200 fly and the 400 IM and the C-final of the 100 and 200 breast and 200 IM at the 2020 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships.
Gardner-Webb has already picked up verbals from IM specialist Adrianna Barone and fly and back specialist Campbell McCarthy for its class of 2025.
