The RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights is running a spring auction right now, and one of the items up for bid is a cup of coffee with open water swimmer Diana Nyad in Los Angeles to hear about her swim from Cuba to Florida.
Last September, Nyad who was 64 at the time, became the first person ever to swim that distance without a shark tank, incredibly making it on her third try showing perseverance and dedication to her goal.
The distance was 110.86 miles, taking her roughly 53 hours to complete.
Currently there have been three bids on this coffee-date with Nyad, the highest being at $325.oo from bidder DrCheryl. There are six days left to bid for a chance to meet Nyad, the estimated value of the coffee-date is $1000 according to the RFK site.
Many celebrities are currently amongst Nyad in the auction, including a chance to meet football legend Tom Brady and 90’s boy-band The Backstreet Boys. There are many different things to bid on as well such as plane tickets, tickets to sporting events, and even a role in Judd Apatow’s new movie: Trainwreck.
The RFK auction has had a swimming related item in the past; in 2012 a Katie Ledecky themed item was added to the list where bidders fought to get a 30 minute private swim lesson for their child with Olympic gold medallist Katie Ledecky.
If you would like to bid to have coffee with Nyad, bid here. Best of luck!
