Rachel Klinker from Lexington, Kentucky, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of California, Berkeley for the fall of 2019. Joining her in the class of 2023 will be future Golden Bears Chloe Clark and Isabel Ivey.
“I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of California, Berkeley! This is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to swim with the team! Thank you to everyone who has helped me reach this point of my career. Go Bears! ???”
Klinker is a junior at Lexington’s Tates Creek High School. She won both the 200 free (1:46.05) and 500 free (4:49.77) at this year’s Kentucky High School State Championships. She also split a 24.46 butterfly on the 11th-place medley relay and led off the 6th-place 400 free relay in 50.19, all of which helped Tates Creek finish 8th in the team standing in the girls’ meet.
Klinker does her club swimming with Lexington Dolphins. She was a B-finalist in the 500 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly, and a C-finalist in the 200 free at 2017 Winter Junior Nationals East; she went best times in the 500 free, 100/200 fly, and 200 IM at the meet. After notching a PB in the 200 free in high school season, she lowered her lifetime bests in the 50/100/1000 free at NCSA Spring Championship. Spent some time with this young lady recently at NCSA and the team travel for the Ireland meet… she is one of the most friendly, polite, outgoing, personable young people I have ever been around…. great pickup by any school. (bonus, her times are pretty good too)
go get ’em Klinker!
This young lady has a ton of positive energy and will help her Cal teammates improve. Good pickup for the Bears.
