Cal Poly Receives Commitment From Scholastic All-American Ivan Nghi

For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ivan Nghi, a current high school senior from Garden Grove, California, has committed to swim for Division I Cal Poly. Nghi will graduate from Fountain Valley High School in spring 2021 and join the Mustangs’ class of 2025.

Nghi is a member of the Golden West Swim Club where he is a Winter and Summer Juniors qualifier. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed 2^nd in the 100 breaststroke (55.60) and 5^th in the 200 IM (1:50.21) at the 2019 California CIF Southern – Division I Section Championships.

“Cal Poly SLO was a very academically sound school, along with the opportunity to swim Division 1 was the biggest factor into my commitment. Its location is relatively local, being within the state, and that was exactly what I wanted. I love being on the west coast,
and to have all things that I wanted in 1 school was truly a blessing.”

At the 2020 MPSF Championships with the Mustangs, Nghi would have had multiple finals performances with the team. He would have placed 7^th in the 200 IM (1:48.99) and 16^th in the 100 breaststroke (55.56) with his current best times.

At the MPSF Championships, the Cal Poly men placed 5^th overall as a team. Additionally, the team had 25 athletes who were given MPSF All-Academic honors.
