Folsom, California’s Mara Allen has verbally committed to swim for the University of California, Berkeley in 2020-21. Cal has also secured pledges from Gracie Felner, Isabelle Stadden, Nicole Oliva, and Téa Laughlin for the class of 2024. Allen’s club team, Sierra Marlins Swim Team, announced her verbal commitment on their Facebook page:
Allen is a rising senior at Vista Del Lago High School. Primarily a sprint freestyler, she can extend her range from the 50 through the 500 and has promising times in the backstroke and IM as well. Allen finished fifth in the 50 free (23.58) and sixth in the 100 free (51.67) as a sophomore at the 2018 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships before going on to the California State Meet and placing ninth (23.47) and 14th (51.50) in the respective events. That summer she was runner-up in the 200m free (2:06.32), 9th in the 100m free (58.60), and 10th in the 50m free (27.03) at Western Zone Senior Championships. At 2018 Winter Juniors West she competed in the 50/100/200 free and scored PBs in the 50/100. Since December, she has improved her lifetime bests in the SCY 200/500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, and 200 IM as well as the LCM 50/100/200/400/800/1500 free, 50/100 back, 50 breast, and 100 fly.
