Cal Commit Casper Puggaard Nears Lifetime Best In 200 Fly At Danish Open

2025 DANISH OPEN

The 2025 Danish Open continued from Copenhagen, with 17-year-old Martine Damborg topping the podium once again.

Capturing gold in the women’s 50m back, Damborg stopped the clock at a time of 28.29. That fell just .02 outside her own Danish Junior Record of 28.27 put on the books last year.

Julie Kepp Jensen settled for silver over half a second back in 28.84 while Victoria Bierre rounded out the podium in 28.91.

Fresh off his commitment to Cal for the fall of 2026, national record holder Casper Puggaard got it done for gold in the men’s 200m fly.

20-year-old Puggaard touched in a time of 1:58.60 to earn the sole result of the field under the 2:02 barrier. His effort qualified him for the U23 Championships later this summer, although he was hunting a World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 1:56.51 to make the grade or the World Championships.

Nevertheless, Puggaard’s performance was within striking distance of his best-ever, a mark of 1:58.18 notched in July of last year.

Additional Notes

  • Oliver Sogaard-Andersen led the men’s 100m free final, posting 49.61 to qualify for the U23 Championshps. Frederik Riedel Lentz was next to the wall in 49.89 as the only other sub-50-second performer. Rasmus Nickelsen bagged the bronze in 50.05.
  • Shastine Tabor clocked a time of 31.37 to get it done for gold in the women’s 50m breaststroke. Finland’s Laua Lahtinen was within reach at 31.91 for silver and Clara Rybak-Andersen wrangled up 3rd place in 31.92.
  • Iris Julia Berger clinched women’s 200m free gold in 1:59.35, the sole time of the pack under 2:00. Damborg notched 2:00.95 as the silver medalist while Artemis Vasilaki of Greece hit 2:01.80 for 3rd place.
