PASADENA – California Baptist University men’s and women’s swim & dive teams followed up a dominating performance over Pomona-Pitzer yesterday with another incredible showing in Saturday’s double dual against host CalTech and San Diego.
In a nearly identical flex as Friday, Saturday’s results found CBU finishing first in 28 of 32 events. The Lancer men only had to face the host Beavers and won going away, 230.5 to 68.5, while the Lancer women handled the Toreros with ease, 190 to 107, and dominated CalTech by a score of 238 to 56.
SWIMMING
CBU’s women racked up points on Saturday like they were going out of style. The Lancers showed their strength by placing multiple finishers in the top three in five events and sweeping the podium in the 200 Fly, 200 Breast, and 100 Fly. Olivia Walton (100 & 200 Back) and Lynn Henke (100 & 200 Breast) capped a great weekend with multiple wins, with Avery Easterling (200 Free), Gabriela Robles (200 Free), Naya Koc (100 Free), Kai Flanagan (500 Free) and Emily Drossel (100 Fly) all claiming a solo victories.
The Lancer men claimed victory in both relays, the 200 medley and 400 free, while also claiming 11 individual crowns, led by sophomore Andrew Teh, who went three-for-three on Saturday, winning the 100 and 200 backstroke events as well as the 200 butterfly. Other Lancer men with wins on the day include Remi Fabiani (50 & 200 Free), Jonathan Reiter (100 & 200 Breast), Mark Kovacsics (1,000 Free), Cody Meyer (500 Free), Brendan Man (100 Fly), Andrija Petkovic (100 Free) and Liam Flaherty (200 IM).
DIVING
Another day on the boards, another record-breaking Lancer performance. After Gael Jimenez and Mario Del Valle rewrote the men’s record sheet yesterday, it was time for Audrey Thordarson-Wehner to put her stamp on the 2024-35 season. Thordarson-Wehner became just the second Lancer woman ever to break the 300-point mark and broke an eight-year-old record with her 315.30 points on the 1-meter springboard today. Thordarson-Wehner made it a clean sweep today, winning the 3-meter event with another personal-best effort of 317.70. Jade Fontenelle was next up for CBU in both events, taking second in both the 3-meter and 1-meter events, scoring 282.75 and 273.20, respectively, and earning NCAA Zone bids in both events.
Del Valle swept the men’s events on Saturday, posting scores of 383.05 (3M) and 340.15 (1M) to take the wins. Nate Warson and John Angelovic traded second and third-place finishes on the day in the two events, with Warson taking second in the 3-meter and Angelovic claiming it in the 1-meter.
A busy weekend makes way for a quiet few weeks of rest and training until the Lancers hit the road again for the first invitational of the season. CBU will head to St. George, Utah, for the Trailblazer Invite, November 21-23, hosted by WAC foe Utah Tech.

PASADENA — San Diego swimming and diving traveled to Pasadena on Saturday morning to take on Cal Tech and California Baptist in a combined meet.
Competing against a pair of opponents, the Toreros split the two matchups at their meet, taking down the Cal Tech Beavers by a score of 223 to 74, but falling to the California Baptist Lancers by a 190 to 107 margin.
Individually, Gabrielle Zinis and Catherine Dueck both earned first place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle and the 200 yard IM, respectively.
The Toreros also earned first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay, and second place in the 200 yard medley relay.

PASADENA, Calif. — Caltech Men’s Swim & Dive hosted California Baptist University on Saturday for the Beavers’ season opener at Braun Pool where multiple student-athletes posted noteworthy performances.
First-year Samuel Xie (Princeton, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School) swam one of the fastest 200-yard butterfly times in all of Division III this season as he collected 1:51.81 to earn runner-up, just barely missing out on the victory behind his Div. I opponent who took the race in 1:51.23. With the result, Xie lands at No. 3 on the current national Div. III performance list for the 200 Free; his speedy time puts him at No. 4 all-time in school history for the event.
Caltech cleaned up 2-3-4 in the race as junior Pierre Zeineddin (Gaithersburg, Md. / Richard Montgomery) finished in 1:57.47 for third and sophomore Reid Nussbaum (Cohasset, Mass. / Cohasset) tapped the wall at 1:58.13 for fourth.
The 200-yard breaststroke saw another program top-10 showing as rookie Thomas Fenton (Lynchburg, Va. / Virginia Episcopal School) posted a 2:10.81 for seventh all-time on the school leaderboard. The first-year just barely missed out on the runner-up, who finished just .32 seconds ahead. Sophomore Tommaso Colombo (Wellington College International / Shanghai) followed in fifth at 2:11.20, moving him into eighth all-time in Caltech history.
The 100-yard breaststroke saw two Caltech athletes finish in the top-4, with Colombo nabbing third at 58.94 followed by rookie Alvin Zhang (Bellevue, Wash. / Lakeside School) who finished with a time of 58.99 for fourth. Colombo currently sits at No. 4 all time after swimming a 56.57 at the SCIAC Championships this past February; Zhang’s time moves him into eighth all-time in the Caltech records.
Zhang also excelled in the men’s 100-yard butterfly, grabbing third overall with a time of 50.69 seconds, good for seventh all-time on Caltech’s record boards; sophomore Marcel Liu (Natick, Mass. / Phillips Academy) finished moments later at 51.13 for fourth place.
Junior Simon Hu (Clarksville, Md. / River Hill) earned major points for the team after securing second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.21) and 200 IM (2:00.73); Xie came through moments later in the 200 IM to place third at 2:01.05.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Caltech nabbed third out of seven with a time of 1:34.19 as a result of the combined performances of first-year swimmer and diver Aaron Dumas (San Diego / Cathedral Catholic), Zhang, Liu and first-year Athanasios Boutakidis (Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Preparatory). Dumas led the team in the 200-yard backstroke, placing third (2:00.83).
After posting numerous Caltech top-10 times, head coach Andrew Babson’s squad will practice and prepare for their next meet as they battle the Tigers of Occidental College on the road this Saturday Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m.
