Schroeder YMCA’s Brody LePine threw down a time of 21.98 in the 50 back at the Wisconsin Short Course Senior State Championship, winning the event by .75. His performance bumped him up to #6 on the ranking of top times this season among the 17-18 age group.

The 17-year-old, committed to swim for Purdue next season, turned in his first sub-22 performance in the 50 back, shaving .17 off of his time as he raced into the wall well ahead of runner-up Keaton Barwick (22.73).

LePine continued to show off his backstroke skills in the relays. He served as the leadoff on both the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay, turning in times of 22.22 and 48.89, respectively, to help his team secure victories in both events. His time in the 100 back marked a lifetime best by .01.

LePine logged three more wins and two more personal best times over the course of the meet. He joined teammates Ethan Schutten, Dawson Walters and John Brostowitz for the 400 free relay, prevailing in an overall time of 3:01.25. Walters, LePine and Schutten were joined by Eli Wichman for the 800 free relay, winning in 6:40.50. LePine also won the 50 fly (22.25 – PB) and took 2nd in the 200 IM (1:53.41 – PB).

Also turning in top performances was 17-year-old Alana Berlin, a fellow Schroeder YMCA member. Berlin posted a time of 22.47 on the fly leg of the 200 medley relay, the fastest split across the board by over two seconds, on her way to helping her team to victory in the event alongside Maggie Dickinson, Amy Hu and Anne Dickinson.

Berlin also turned in a lifetime best in the individual 50 fly, winning in 23.30 to beat out runner-up Julia Saxman by over a second, and swam a time of 51.49 on the fly leg of the 400 medley relay as Schroeder YMCA picked up another win.

In addition to her dominant performances in butterfly, Berlin swept the breaststroke events, prevailing in the 50, 100 and 200 distances. She turned in a lifetime best in the 50 breast (28.78) and 200 breast (2:13.00) and was narrowly off of her best time in the 100 breast (1:01.87).

Other Notable Performances

  • Blake TeBeest, who swims for the McFarland Spartan Sharks, threw down a personal best time of 19.99 in the 50 free as the leadoff leg of the 200 free relay. TeBeest had the fastest opening split across the board by nearly a second, and his performance was even faster than all of the individual 50 freestylers.
  • Madison Aquatic Club’s Finnley Conklin won the 100 breast in 53.97, just .43 off of his personal best and the only time in the field under 54 seconds. Not far behind was teammate Julian Callender, who secured the runner-up spot in a lifetime best time of 54.78.
  • Maggie Dickinson, another member of Schroeder YMCA, threw down a time of 1:55.88 in the 200 back to win the event by nearly 2.5 seconds. A lifetime best for Dickinson, her performance bumped her up to 14th on the ranking of top times this season for the 15-16 age group.
  • Verona Area Swim Team’s Payton Flowers turned in a top performance in the 100 fly; she won the event in 53.71, shaving .47 off of her previous best time which she had just set in early February. Flowers has knocked over two seconds off of her 100 fly time since March 2024, dropping it from 55.81 down to 53.71.
