Ashley Fryer will remain in-state with a verbal commitment to swim for Bowling Green State University beginning in the fall of 2022. She is a year-round competitor for the Mason Manta Rays Swim Team and she will soon begin her senior year at Lakota West High School. The Rays congratulated their swimmer with a post on their Instagram:
Fryer competed at the Ohio Division I State Championships in February. The Lakota West High School junior swam the 200 and 500 free and was a member of two of her school’s relays. She finished 17th in the 200 free (1:54.63) and 20th in the 500 free (5:10.88). She led off Lakota West’s 200 and 400 free relays, picking up two new personal best times. She went a 24.77 on the lead-off split of the 200 free relay and a 53.46 on the 400 free relay.
She recently picked up a new personal best time in the 200 back at the Ohio RAYS Virtual LSC meet. She improved her time from March of 2020 by half of a second to go a 2:03.69. She also went a best time in the 100 back, touching at 59.30. Fryer has 2021 Futures qualifying times in the 200 back and free.

Fryer will join the Bowling Green women’s team beginning in the 2022-2023 season. She will likely be one of the team’s top mid-distance freestylers. During the 2020-2021 season, she would have been the team’s second-fastest in the 200 behind Brazilian national Livia Castro. She would also have been their fifth-fastest in the 500 and the third-fastest in the 200 back. Top backstrokers Daisy Platts and Lauren Sullivan will have graduated before Fryer arrives on campus.
Fryer is the first-known swimmer to commit to the Falcons’ class of 2026.
