Boston University Rolls To Sweep of Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Boston University men’s swimming & diving team posted an impressive 217-59 victory at Colgate on Saturday afternoon at the Lineberry Natatorium.

The Terriers had the top finisher in every race and event to extend their dual win streak to five and improve to 5-1 overall and 2-1 against Patriot League opponents.

Freshman Andy Carlson had a terrific day, sweeping the two breaststroke events while also winning the 200 IM. He took the 100 breast in a time of 58.82 before winning the 200 in 2:11.83. He capped his day by taking first in the 200 IM in 2:00.72.

Junior Sarsen Whatmore earn victories in the 100 (47.54) and 200 free (1:43.62) while sophomore Toby Jackson posted wins in the 100 (51.35) and 200 butterfly (1:55.78).

The two diving events were swept by senior Michael Nejaime, as he put up 186.90 points in the 1-meter and 202.28 in the 3-meter.

Graduate student Daniel Galante (500 free – 4:47.96), freshman Dolan Grisbaum (1000 free – 9:48.90, senior Tommy Scrivanich (100 back – 53.63) and sophomores Justin Lee (50 free – 21.68) and Adrien Pierce (200 back – 1:58.16) each had one win apiece.

The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 22, when they host Boston College at 1:30 p.m.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Boston University women’s swimming & diving team rolled to a 243-49 win at Colgate on Saturday afternoon at the Lineberry Natatorium.

The Terriers had the top finisher in every race and event to improve to 4-3 in duals and 2-1 against Patriot League opponents.

Senior Sezin Eligul was the top performer, winning the 50 (24.02) and 100 free (52.25) events before taking the 200 IM in a time of 2:10.09.

Classmate Emily Balicanta came out on top in both diving events, posting a score of 257.48 in the 1-meter before adding a winning score of 264.98 in the 3-meter.

The two backstroke events were swept by sophomore Lara Mitchell, who finished the 100 in 57.87 and the 200 in 2:06.46.

Freshman Stephanie Liu also had a two-win afternoon, taking first in the 100 breast (1:06.97) as well as the 200 (2:24.63)

Five other swimmers recorded a win in the dual: sophomore Madison Kim (200 free – 1:56.46), freshman Ashley Scafetta (500 free – 5:14.81), sophomore Ellie Graves (1000 free – 10:48.51), sophomore Clarissa Hoyt (100 fly – 58.96) and senior Ashlyn Carroll (200 fly – 2:09.11).

The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 22, when they host Boston College at 1:30 p.m.

The men’s 200-yard freestyle relay team composed of all seniors (Justin SongNoah ZeiglerJack Van Meter and Segundo Rienhardt) finished in second place. They posted a time of 1:31.14.

Ryan Blumenfeld took second place in the men’s 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:09.84. He also had a second place finish in the 200-yard fly, finishing with a time of 1:58.82.

In the men’s 100-yard freestyle, Cooper Luedde finished in third place. Justin Song finished shortly after in fourth place.

In the women’s 50-yard freestyle, Alexandra Mehos and Danielle McNerney finished in third and fourth place respectively.

The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay team (Elke AmbachAlexandra MehosJordan Hurt, and Zoe Stokes) finished in third place with a time of 1:42.55.

Boston University came out with the win, 460–108.

UP NEXT 
Colgate’s meet against Holy Cross originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18 has been postponed due to Covid protocols within the Holy Cross program. A makeup date has not yet been determined. The Raiders are scheduled to return to action Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Hamilton College at 6 p.m.
