Bedford Boys, Girls Win 5th Straight New Hampshire State Titles

This was definitely worthy of a lot of “high-fives” for the Bedford swimming and diving program.

Both the boys and girls teams made it five straight Division I state championships last month at the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Division I meet, with both winning easily.

GIRLS’ RECAP 

Bedford won another title thanks in large part to junior Emmie Goucher, who won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams.

Goucher won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:12.16 and the 100 backstroke in a time of 59.31.

She was a part of Bedford’s winning team in the 200 medley relay that clocked a time of 1:54.36, along with Paige Jeffers, Jessie Black and Emma Conway.

Goucher later swam leadoff for Bedford’s 400 freestyle relay team that won that event in a time of 3:50.19. Emily Yeaton, Black and Caitrin Duprey were the other team members.

Bedford also won the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:45.01 behind the team of Conway, Amina Suljevic, Yeaton and Duprey.

The other individual standouts were Duprey, a junior, and Manchester Central senior Abby Gowern.

Duprey was the sprint freestyle queen, winning the 50 freestyle in a personal best time of 24.52 and the 100 freestyle in a time of 54.28.

A Northeastern signee, Gowern won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:53.01 and the 500 freestyle in a personal best time of 4:55.61.

Other individual winners were:

  • Nashua South senior Katie Perry won the diving event with 331.95 points.
  • Dover junior ML Carroll won the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:02.08.
  • Windham freshman McKenna Lawson won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best time of 1:05.76.

BOYS’ RECAP

Bedford senior Ethan Steichen finished out his high school career in fine form, winning the 50 freestyle in a personal best time of 21.93 and the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.62.

He was also part of Bedford’s team that won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:37.78. Other team members were Caden Chang, Tyler Chun and Andrew Gordon.

Chang also won the 200 IM in a time of 1:59.54 and Gordon won the 100 freestyle in a personal best time of 48.75.

Keene’s team of Colin Hennigan, Morgan Murray, Brayden Rogers and Conrad Smith won the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:37.47, while Bedford’s team of Dylan Belair, Jack Mortimer, Noah Richardson and Chun won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:22.87.

Murray won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best time of 1:01.43.

In addition to Steichen, the other individual standout was Londonderry junior Will Erdtmann, who won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:46.55 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 51.72. Both times were personal bests.

Other individual winners were:

  • Nashua junior Dawson Bolton won diving with 307.80 points
  • Exeter sophomore Dennis Dragomaretski won the 500 freestyle in a personal best time of 4:40.86.
