Alex Harkness from Tampa, Florida has signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at Saint Leo University beginning in the fall of 2021.
“I will be pursuing a degree in Mathematics with a specialization in Data Science. I can’t wait to be a Lion!”
Harkness swims for George Steinbrenner High School in Lutz, Florida where he was captain of the swim team and a 4-year qualifier for the Florida High School State Championships. He was named to the All-Conference First Team for 4 years. At the 2020 FHSAA Class 4A Region 2 Championships, he earned best times in the 200 free and 500 free before going on to swim the 500 free at the state meet.
He does his year-round swimming with Team Velocity. In December at the 18&U Virtual Championships, he clocked PBs in the 50/200 breast and 50 fly. He placed 15th in the 100 breast and 12th in the 200 breast. He recently picked up new times in the LCM 100 breast and 200 back.

Saint Leo placed in the top-20 of the men’s teams at 2021 NCAA Division II Championships but the Sunshine State Conference Championships were canceled this year. In 2020, it took 1:41.00/4:37.69/9:37.82 to score in the 200/500/1000 freestyle events at conference.
