NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Wildcats took first place in eight of the nine events on the final day of the two-day dual meet as the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team defeated Central Connecticut, 231-122, at Jack Suydam Natatorium. UNH claimed victory in 16 of the 19 events over the two days.

“This was another strong weekend for us and our freshman class continues to do a great job stepping up,” head coach Josh Willman said. “We still have a lot of things to work on as we move closer to the fall invitational at Brown, but I’m happy with what we are seeing so far for sure.”

  • The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Amelia Labno (Rosemount, Minn.), sophomore Emily Wright (Ventura, Calif.), sophomore Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.), and senior Annie Jencova (Waikanae, New Zealand) opened day two with a first-place finish, clocking in at 1:49.56.
  • Junior Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) followed her victory in the 50 free on day one with a first-place finish in the 100 free (53.40).
  • Freshman Teagan Jeffers (Bedford, N.H.) continued her impressive start to the season, winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.23.
  • Sophomore Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) secured an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 273.08 to finish first in the 1-meter dive.
  • In the 100 butterfly, sophomore Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.) took first place with an impressive time of 56.33, finishing three seconds ahead of the field.
  • Freshman Lydia Hart (Cornwall, ON, Canada) claimed first in the 500 free with a commanding time of 5:04.64, finishing nearly six seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. This followed her earlier victory in the 200 free on day one.
  • In the 200 breaststroke, Wright and freshman Macey Speakman (Coatesville, Pa.) achieved another one-two finish with times of 2:25.99 and 2:29.85, respectively, repeating their success from the 100 breaststroke a day ago.
  • The 400 freestyle relay (Hart, Jeffers, Mahoney, Mahon) concluded the meet with another first-place finish (3:34.55).

The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team completed its two-day dual meet with the University of New Hampshire on Saturday at Suydam Natatorium. The Wildcats earned the victory in the meet with a 231-122 advantage.

The Blue Devils are back in action on Friday, November 1st, travelling to Southern Connecticut State for a double-dual with the Owls and Wagner.

FREESTYLE

STROKES

  • Gabi Wroblewski earned the top spot in the 400 IM, taking the lead during the third leg and finishing with a time of 4:38.21
  • Kyla Behrle (4:56.83) and Marley Milne (4:57.39) were fourth and fifth in the IM on Saturday
  • Sophie Milhomens missed a sweep of the backstrokes by just .10 seconds, finishing second in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.33
  • Cowing earned second in the 100 butterfly, touching at 59.59, with Megan Dunnigan fourth at 59.98
  • Grace Young took third in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:33.45 performance, and rookie Veronica Okurowski took fourth at 2:38.53

DIVING

  • Jewelle Maziarz captured second on the 10meter board, putting up a score of 237.98
  • Kaitlyn Carrol placed fourth at 229.20 and Zoe Baker was fifth with a final tally of 223.20

RELAYS

  • Milhomens (27.56), Young (32.27), Dunnigan (26.54) and O’Leary (24.88) took second in a time of 1:51.25 in the 200-medley relay to open the second day of competition
  • O’Leary (54.18), Milhomens (54.61) Spaciano (54.67) and Dunnigan (54.87) combined for a second-place finish in the final race, the 400 free relay, for a time of 3:38.33
