Caeleb Dressel Ties His Own NAG Record in 50 Free in Prelims at Winter Juniors

Bolles’ Caeleb Dressel, who is committed to the Florida Gators, has tied the 17-18 National Age Group Record in the 50 yard freestyle.

No need to update your record books too much, however, as the old record of 19.29, that he matched in prelims, also belonged to him: done leading off Clay High School’s relay at the Florida 2A High School State Championships meet.

Dressel now has the three fastest times in the 50 yard free ever done by an American junior: 19.29, 19.29, 19.34 and 19.36. The next-best is Seth Stubblefield, who was a 19.41 as a freshman at Cal, though we should note that Vlad Morozov, with no American citizenship to fall back on, was a 19.06 in the 50 yard free in his freshman year at USC, where he was also only 18.

Dressel’s 19.34 came in prelims of the boys’ 200 yard free relay on the lead-off leg.

Full prelims recaps are available here.

How does he swim so fast so often? Seems like he is just nailing it at a taper meet every 6 weeks or so.
