The 2021 FINA Short Course World Championships concluded today from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates but not before multiple World, World Junior, Continental, National and Championships Records bit the dust over the course of this 6-day affair.

All told, 4 World Records, 13 Championships Records and 5 World Junior Records were overtaken in addition to the numerous national records which fell at this competition.

In terms of the senior World Records, the nations of Hong Kong, Canada, Sweden and Germany all made their marks.

Former University of Michigan standout Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong crushed a new 200m free World Record of 1:50.31 on the very first day of competition to kickoff her Abu Dhabi campaign.

Additional world records fell at the hands of Canadian Olympic gold medalist Maggie MacNeil in the women’s 50m back (25.27) while Germany’s Florian Wellbrock cranked out a time of 14:06.88 to wipe out the CR in that grueling race.

Finally, the women’s 200m medley relay saw Sweden produce a time of 1:42.38 to tie as the World Record.

American Claire Curzan was a one-woman wrecking ball when it came to the World Junior Records. She clocked a lifetime best of 24.55 in the 50m fly before matching and then learning the 100m fly WJR mark in 55.39 tonight.

China’s Yu Yiting earned a new WJR in the 200m IM while Russing Swimming Federation’s Ilya Borodin did some major damage in the men’s 400m IM en route to silver.

USA-wise, Curzan’s 24.55 rechecked in as a new American Record, as did Nic Fink‘s result of 25.53 in the men’s 50m breaststroke final.
