AgonSwim Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 3/23/2016

Announcing our Weekly Wonders for the weekend of March 18-20, 2016.

Amalie Fackenthal, 15, Davis Arden Racing Team: 50y free (22.83) – Fackenthal had an outstanding meet at the NCSA Spring Championships in Orlando, Florida. She went best SCY times in prelims in the 50/100/200 free, 100/200 back, 50/100 fly, and 200 IM. She made finals in the 50/100/200 free, and 50/100 fly (including top 8 in the 50 free and both fly events) and picked up new LCM times in all of them. And on the last day, she took second in the 50 free final and punched her first ticket to 2016 Olympic Trials.

Kelly Pash, 14, Carmel Swim Club: 100y free (49.47) – Swimming at the Indiana Age Group State Championships, Pash won the girls’ 13-14 100/200 free, 200 back, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM, clocking best times in every event. She broke Claire Adams’ 2013 Indiana Age Group Records in the 100 free and 200 IM and lowered her own 2015 IAR records in the 200 free and 400 IM.

Eben Krigger, 17, Allegheny North Swim Club: 500y free (4:27.96) – Swimming unattached for North Allegheny High School at the PIAA Boys AAA Swimming & Diving State Championships, Krigger snagged his first national times in the 200 free (1:38.77) and 500 free (4:27.96), placing fifth and third respectively. Krigger also led off North Allegheny’s 400 free relay in prelims with 46.02, a best time by 1.3 seconds, and then anchored it in 45.46 in finals.

Will Roberts, 16, Naval Academy Aquatic Club: 1000y free (9:11.49) – In the very first event at NCSA Spring Championships, Roberts dropped 21.4 seconds and finished sixth in the 1000 free. He then went on to earn new personal SCY bests in the 200/500 free, 200 fly and 400 IM, and LCM bests in the 400 free and 400 IM.

Ella Guffey, 11, Bakersfield Aquatics Club: 100y back (1:02.06) – Guffey won the girls’ 11 100 back by 3.8 seconds at the South Western Age Group Regionals hosted by Clovis Swim Club. It was her best time by .7 seconds and more than 11 seconds faster than she had been in the fall of 2015. In addition, Guffey picked up new times in the 50/100/500 free, 50 back, and 200 IM during the weekend.

Brittany Weiss, 17, Central Bucks Swim Team: 100y back (53.27) – A senior at Pennridge High School, Weiss won the 100 back at the PIAA Girls AAA State Championships, missing the Pennsylvania state high school record by .19. It was her best time by 1.5 seconds and 3.5 ahead of her pace last year at this time. Weiss also placed second in the 100 fly with a best-by-.8 53.44 and swam the third leg on both Pennridge’s winning freestyle relays.

Noah Basista, 14, Youngstown YMCA Neptunes: 100y breast (58.97) – Swimming at the Great Lakes YMCA Zone Meet at McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio, Basista won the boys’ 13-14 100 breast with a new meet record, taking a full second off the old mark from 2009. He also won the 200 IM, and ended the weekend with new PBs in the 50/100 free, 100/200 breast, and 200 IM.

Kathleen Golding, 15, South Florida Aquatic Club: 200y IM (2:00.36) – Golding won the girls’ 15-16 50/200 free, 50 fly, and 100/200 IM Florida Gulf Coast Senior Championships. She went personal best times in every event. She also won the 100 free and 400 IM, and was runner-up in the 500 free and 100 fly.
