There are 5 Speedo Sectional meets going on around the country this week, some of which are LCM and some are SCY. The Buffalo Sectional, running out of the ECC Burt Flickinger Center, is an LCM sectional, featuring many east coast teams. Thursday was a short session, featuring only the women’s 1500 free and men’s 800 free.
North Baltimore Aquatic Club’s Madeline Ryan, a 15-year-old, won the women’s 1500 free last night in a 17:36.15. Ryan is a freestyle specialist, boasting some very strong times, particularly in the 100-500 free. Her 1500 last night marked a huge new career best, blowing away her previous best of 18:03.53. It was a strong event for NBAC, as 16-year-old teammate Nina Heron took 2nd in 17:47.96, which was a personal best for her as well.
The men’s 800 free saw North Baltimore land atop the podium as well. 16-year-old Daniel Branon clocked an 8:22.69, winning the race by nearly 4 seconds. That was a considerable personal best for Branon, taking about 3 seconds off his previous mark of 8:25.41, which he set at the Speedo Summer Championships last summer.
