Marian Ploeger came in 2nd at 16:32.99, splitting 1:06 highs on her 100s. She was not that far off her best time, adding only nine seconds from the 16:17.07 she went in November of 2022. Ploeger swims internationally for Germany and college for the University of Michigan, and she appears on the psych sheets for the women’s NCAA Championships in a few weeks, seeded 22nd in the 1650.

Aiden Hammer from King Aquatic Club in Washington had an incredible swim to finish 1st overall in the men’s 1500. His final time of 15:15.37 was more than 15 seconds faster than his previous best of 15:33.86 from July of 2023. Hammer negative split his race, swimming 7:40.34 and 7:35.03 on his 150s. His last 100 split of 57.95 was also faster than his 1st 100 split of 58.47. Hammer is committed to Texas in the fall.
Luka Mijatovic led for a portion of the race, but ultimately finished 2nd in 15:16.31, just three tenths off his lifetime best of 15:15.95.
Luke Whitlock came in 3rd after adding more than 30 seconds from his best time of 14:53.00 to swim 15:23.53.
Sam Metzgar, who swims for King Aquatic Club with Hammer, was the only other swimmer to drop time in the event. He finished in 16:33.31, which was almost five seconds faster than his previous best time of 16:38.04 from March of 2024.
As a Cal fan, bummed that Hammer changed his commitment.
this might be old headed of me, but i’m happy pro swim series have come far enough to be streamed live, awesome to see coverage on pro swimming and can’t wait to watch tomorrow night
Is Whitlock planning on joining a college program at any point?
He’ll decide that when he’s ready, I’m sure. Focus now is making World team.
Can he keep up academically is the issue
is it the actual issue?
Not the issue. He gets straight A’s. My son is friends with him.
I’m sorry, but how do you think it’s okay to make assumptions like that?! You have no clue…We should be lifting up these amazing athletes, not put them down just because you can hide behind the screen.
Funny. I heard he was 4.0 at Florida and is carrying a full load now. Doing quite well. Sometimes you just click with a coach and a program. I bet Luke knows what’s best for Luke.
Look at all the splits for the mile. There’s definitely a current
Most of the swimmers don’t have splits that suggest a current. It’s only the top guys on a few 100s in the middle of the race that has odd splitting but even then it’s less than a .5 difference between 50s so it could be anything like being able to see their coach or see each other going one way.
Luka just went 15:16.31 only .36 off his PB rn
Hammer just went 15:15. I think his 1650 time is a 15:13. Sub 15 in yards awaits!
I think Katie Ledecky’s 1500 pro swim series record is gonna be there for a while lol
Yeah I don’t think many world records are set in this series. Add in that only Katie and Lotte have ever been under 15:40 and the record is 15:20; it just becomes even more impressive. Lotte only broke that barrier in the epic 2013 WC race against Katie where they were both under Ziegler’s old record and Katie first got the world record. It’s possible Lotte never breaks that barrier without that race.
It’s an incredible record.
Not a very strong 1500 field
Fairly small fields in a lot of events.
