Men’s 100 Yard Butterfly – Prelims

Harvard entered four swimmers in the 100 fly and Princeton, two; all six made the A final, with the Crimson’s first-year Sonny Wang and senior Aayush Deshpande tying for the top qualifying spot with 46.55.

Joseph Gurski of Cornell, who had the top seed time coming into the meet (46.79) qualified 3rd.

Harvard also nabbed 4th and 6th, as first-year David Schmitt, the top seed in the 200 fly on Saturday, and junior Anthony Rincon, dropped .5 and 1.2 seconds off their seed times to clock in at 46.63 and 46.89.

Princeton sophomore Conor McKenna (46.84) and senior Nicholas Lim (47.05) and Penn’s Andrew Dai (47.07) round out the top-8.

Top-seeded Noah Sech, a first-year from Princeton, led the morning’s qualifiers in the 400 IM with 3:47.64. He was about 1 second off his seed time but still posted the top time by nearly half a second.

Teammate Maxwell Seidel (3:48.07) dropped 1.5 seconds to win heat 1 and qualify second overall. Behind him, tying for second place in the heat, were Princeton first-year Arthur Balva and Yale senior Jed Jones.

Cornell first-year Julian Correa took heat 2 in 3:50.00; he was followed closely by Penn’s Jason Schreiber (3:50.75).

In the final heat, Penn senior Kevin Keil (3:49.701) came to the wall 2.1 seconds behind Sech and .9 ahead of Princeton junior Hunter Kim (3:50.60). Kim’s time tied with that of teammate Peyton Werner, who was 4th to the wall in heat 1.

Harvard junior Ben Littlejohn, who won the 500 free on Thursday night with a new Blodgett Pool record, dropped 1.3 seconds from his seed time to win heat 2 with 1:33.43. Teammate Harris Durham finished 2nd in the heat, improving his entry time by 1.6 seconds to go 1:35.08. Princeton junior Max Hunger finished 3rd with 1:36.82, adding .9.

Harvard sophomore David Greeley took the next heat with 1:34.12, dropping .6. Princeton went 2-3 with senior Max Kreidl (1:34.85) and sophomore Lucas Tudoras (1:35.79).

Yale first-year Deny Nankov came from behind to eke out a 1:34.79-to-1:34.98 win over Princeton sophomore Mitchell Schott in the last heat. Schott, the top seed coming into the meet, added 1.6 seconds from his seed time.

Men’s 100 Yard Breaststroke – Prelims

Penn junior Matt Fallon won the first circle-seeded heat with 52.29, coming to the wall ahead of Cornell junior Sebastian Wolff (53.35) and Brown sophomore Jake Regenwetter (54.54).

Defending champion, Columbia junior Demirkan Demir, overtook Yale first-year Charlie Egeland on the last 25 yards to win heat 3 with 52.67. Brown junior Harrison Powe (53.81) was 3rd in the heat.

Top-seeded Jack Kelly of Brown won the final heat by a full body length with a PB of 51.58. He took down both the pool record (52.13) and the Ivy League meet record (51.85) in the process. Both marks had been set by Cornell’s Alex Evdokimov. Kelly was runner-up to Demir last year. Yale sophomore Alex Hazlett (53.86) and Columbia sophomore Matthew Lou (54.06) finished 2nd and 3rd in the heat.

Harvard stuffed another A final, taking up half the lanes, after big prelims swims from junior Aayush Deshpande in heat 1 (47.43), junior Anthony Rincon (46.48) and first-year Oliver Pilkinton (47.34) in heat 2, and senior Gunner Grant (46.18) in heat 4.

Princeton junior Tyler Hong won heat 3 with 46.69, touching out Columbia sophomore Isaac Beers (47.00). Princeton junior Brett Feyerick was 3rd in the heat with 47.61.
