2017 ARENA PRO SWIM SERIES – MESA

Update: Though her name appears on the start lists, Olivia Smoliga tweeted that she is sick and won’t swim this morning.

The 2017 Arena Pro Swim Series finals at Mesa will begin at 9am Pacific Time after a highly competitive morning on day two. The prelims for this morning include the 200 fly, 200 breast, 100 back, and 50 freestyle.

The big news for the morning is that Canadian Olympian and age group wonder Taylor Ruck is slated to swim the 100 back, after sitting out the last two days of the meet. Meanwhile, second-seed Conor Dwyer  has scratched the 200 IM, after swimming on Thursday and missing yesterday.

Tenth-seed Kelly Huffer of the Scottsdale Aquatic Club is out of the women’s 200 fly, as is 11th-seed Aquazot Eva Merrell and Tennessee’s 26th-seed Erica LaningMerrell likely has decided to focus on the 100 back.

11th-seed Nick Thorne of Tucson Ford Dealer’s Aquatics has scratched the men’s 200 fly and the men’s 200 IM, where he was seeded 9th. His teammate 22nd-seed Cody Bybee is out as well. 22nd-seed Ivana Ninkovic has also scratched the 100 breast.

17th-seed Jordy Groders has pulled from the men’s 100 breast. Irish Aquatics’ Robert Whitacre is out of the 100 back. Lakeside’s Aldan Johnston, the 21st seed, has scratched the 200 IM.
