Cerritos proved why they are expected to win by a landslide from the opening bell, winning the 200 medley relay in near-record time. Kiri Harvey (28.05), Roxanna Yu (30.81), Maya Valdoria (27.06),and Alexa Ocampo (25.49) went 1:51.41 to lead the qualifiers for finals. Maranatha (1:54.67) and Rowland (2:00.16) were second and third.
Cerritos sophomore Arina Yu followed up with the top performance in the 200 free, dropping 6.5 seconds to go 1:58.98. Buckley’s Sara Wilson wasn’t far off in 1:59.12. Mykaela Delgado of Trinity Classical Academy (2:02.48) and Kennedy Callaway of Marshall (2:02.94) were third and fourth.
La Salle junior Jacqueline Torrez posted the top time in the 200 IM with 2:08.71. On either side of her in finals will be Abby Chopp of La Reina (2:11.07) and Zoomer Otazu of Maranatha (2:11.77). Otazu later clocked a 57.74 to come out on top of the 100 back prelims. Chopp (58.48) and Cerritos’ Harvey (58.64) will challenge her in finals.
Torrez was also the fastest 100 breaststroker with 1:06.36. Buckley’s Wilson (1:08.74) qualified second, just ahead of Cerritos’ Yu (1:09.74).
Santa Clarita Christian sophomore Victoria Kirshner (24.31) and Foothill Technology sophomore Lezly Plahn (24.74) each took about 7/10 off their seed time to lead the qualifiers in the 50 free, while Alta Loma senior Lindsey Whisler (25.23) and Megan Ma of Cerritos (25.26) each dropped over a second to make top four. Kirshner (53.05), Yu of Cerritos (54.19), and Nicole Johnson of Heritage Christian (54.73) led the 100 free.
Cerritos senior Harvey clocked a 59.55 in the 100 fly, earning the middle lane for finals. Teammate Valdoria (1:00.96) was third, while Trinity Classical Academy’s Elizabeth Leathers (1:00.30) qualified second.
Junior Courtney Gray of Beaumont went 5:25.82 and qualified at the top of the field in the 500 free. Vistamar freshman Keiko Derikoletis (5:26.74) and Summer van Houten of Nordhoff (5:27.60) were just behind. The 500 has the potential to be one of the closer races in finals.
Cerritos’ Yu (25.74), Breanna Rigor (25.36), Julia Reyes (25.06), and Megan Ma (24.67) came within .13 of the D4 record in the 200 free relay, qualifying first with 1:40.83. Maranatha (1:43.61) was second, while Alta Loma (1:46.09) improved by 7.3 seconds to qualify third.
Harvey (55.85), A Yu (56.50), R Yu (55.64), and Rigor (55.09) of Cerritos put up the top time in the 400 free relay with 3:43.08. La Reina (3:49.30) and Foothill Technology (3:49.75) will battle for second in finals.

Angel Alcala (23.29), Abraham Son (28.85), Alex Alcala (25.25), and Joseph Gomez (21.85) of Cerritos kicked off the boys’ meet with a 1:39.24 in the 200 medley relay to qualify first for finals. La Salle (1:42.66) and Notre Dame/Riverside (1:43.69) both improved on their seed times to go second and third.
Malibu senior Logan Hotchkiss broke the D4 meet record in the 200 free with 1:38.89. Rowland senior Michael Wang (1:41.91) dropped 3.3 from his seed time for second, while Zack Allen of Cate improved by 5.8 seconds for third (1:43.18). Hotchkiss came within 2 seconds of the D4 record in the 500, as well, qualifying first with 4:30.40. Yairo Mojica of Notre Dame/Riverside was second in that race with 4:48.21; senior Roy Ziv of Milken Community was third, dropping 12 seconds at 4:48.55.
Ziv was the third qualifier in the 200 IM, as well, with 2:02.95, a 7.3-second improvement over his seed time. The top two times belonged to San Dimas senior Brandon Howell (2:01.97) and Covina sophomore Jacob Sustayta (2:02.34).
Rowland senior Andrew Phan clocked a 21.48 to lead the 50 free qualifiers, while Malibu seniors Thelen Mckinna and JC Heckman went 2-3 with 21.61 and 21.74, respectively.
Defending champion Angel Alcala of Cerritos broke the D4 meet record in the 100 fly with 49.54. Qualifying second and third were Cate’s Allen (51.82) and Rowland’s Phan (52.26).
In the very next event, Rowland senior Wang broke the meet record in the 100 free with 45.93. Roman Sarmiento of Notre Dame/Riverside posted the second-fastest time with 48.21, just ahead of Beaumont’s Paul Goetz (48.92).
Malibu broke the meet record in the 200 free relay, putting up a 1:26.30 prelims swim. The quartet featured Hotchkiss (21.38), Heckman (21.39), Mckinna (22.72), and Alec Wilimovsky (20.81).
In yet another meet record, Cerritos senior Angel Alcala posted the top time in the 100 back (49.61). La Salle’s James Torrez (53.69) and Arrowhead Christian’s Isaac Yeier (53.89) were second and third.
Edgar Chin of Fairmont Prep, the runner-up in last year’s final, led the field in the 100 breast with 57.44, about 6/10 off the meet record. Dominick Nevarez of Cerritos dropped 5 second to qualify second in 1:01.22, and Jurupa Valley’s Austin Lytle was third in 1:02.42, more than 3.4 seconds better than his seed time.
