I agree with this. We have to take Ryan’s claiming “not in shape” with a ton of salt.
Due to his years of hard work, it does not take much for him to be back in great shape, and it’s not like he took time off swimming anyway.
If i remember well , last decembe in Istambul , He collected 8 medals !!! most in gold ( 6 golds , One silver , one bronze + 2 world records ) …what a Swimmer !!! He is in shape for sure …….but loves to hide his cards . he will be part of that Meldey and surely will swim a monster leg if Usa is slighly behind at that point . That medley could be :
Grevers , Cordes , Lochte and Adrian . Pretty solid medley …
Lochte is impressive and I think he will perform better than many think in Bcn, medley is looking good too,South Africans might be a threat though?! Zandberg, le clos, van den burgh, schoeman… Backstroke might let them down.
South Africa is great in the middle (van den burgh and le clos), but zandberg and Schoeman are not strong enough. You cannot win a medal with two weak legs.
And it will be his first time in LCM to swim in medley relay, and that’s one of the reasons he dropped 400 IM methinks. It shows how much he really wants to be in the medley relay. He tried last year, but finished third in the 100 fly.
MEL STEWART Jr., aka Gold Medal Mel, won three Olympic medals at the 1992 Olympic Games. Mel's best event was the 200 butterfly. He is a former World, American, and NCAA Record holder in the 200 butterfly.
As a writer/producer and sports columnist, Mel has contributed to Yahoo Sports, Universal Sports, …
You have to wonder where Ryan sits on the “not in shape” meter. His “not being in shape” probably surpasses those who are. What an incredible athlete.

Is he not swimming the medley relay?
He will swim at least the prelims on the butterfly leg.

He swam the backstroke leg of the medley relay at 2007 worlds, when Crocker was DQ’d on fly.
oh right, I forgot about that DQed prelims.
That’s what I assumed, though I could see him not wanting to…that’s a lot of swims for a guy who’s not supposed to be in shape.
