Marietta Marlins hold onto lead after Day 3 of NASA Jr. National Cup

Clearwater, FL – Through 66 events, the Marietta Marlins continue to lead the team standings at the inaugural NASA Jr National Cup with 387 points after the 3rd night. Utilizing their youth and depth, the Marlins had 7 scoring individual swims and fielded 3 medley relays in the 16&U division to maintain their lead. First Colony Swim Team has closed the gap to finish day 3 with 351 points. Meet host Clearwater Aquatic Team is in 3rd with 324.5 points, followed by Quest Swimming (317.5) and Tide (290).

Santa Clara Swim Club’s Aiden Burns doubled with the 400 IM (3:48.60) and 200 freestyle (1:38.44), earning 1st place in each event for the 16&U’s. First Colony’s Simone Manuel earned herself and her team wins in the 17&O 50 fly (24.35) and 100 back (53.34). Tide’s Harrision Pierce doubled up as well, earning 1st place team points in the 50 fly (21.35) and 100 back (47.85).

Vien Nguyen of St. Augustine Swim Team earned her 3rd victory of the meet with a 4:08.88 in the 17&0 400 IM. Quest’s Madeline Banic turned in the fastest 50 fly of the night with a 23.91 for her 3rd win this week.

Michael Andrew (Indie Swimming) earned his 5th victory of the meet by winning the 16&U 100 backstroke in 47.90, less than .10 off his own NAG record. La Mirada’s Ryan Kao was victorious again tonight, taking first in the 17&0 200 free with a 1:36.56.

Harrison Pierce, Austin Temple, Mark Wilson, and Ryan Austin won the senior 400 medley relay by 7 seconds, giving Tide a sweep of the boys senior medley relays at this meet.

The meet concludes Saturday at the Doyle Aquatic Center in Clearwater, FL. Prelims begin at 9:00am with finals starting at 6:00pm.
