Ten-year-old Adam McDonald of Cincinnati Marlins crushed the national age group record in the 50 breast on Friday night at the 2015 Short Course Junior Olympic Championships hosted by Bowling Green Swim Club.
McDonald came into the meet as the fourth-fastest ten-year-old 50 breaststroker in the country with a seed time of 32.78. He dropped .89 in prelims, going 31.89. That immediately catapulted him to the top of the rankings, and was .29 off Matthew Limbacher’s NAG from 2011 (31.60).
In finals, McDonald dropped another .69 to wind up with a new time of 31.09, which beat the old national age group record by .51.
McDonald followed that performance up with a 2.7-second drop in the 100 breast in prelims on Saturday, and is now .74 off Ethan Dang’s NAG with 1:07.99. He will have another opportunity when finals begin at 5:30 p.m.
