YMCA National Champion Emma Seiberlich Verbally Commits to UVA

Emma Seiberlich has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Virginia beginning in 2017-18.

“I have chosen to further my academics and pursue my collegiate swim career at the University of Virginia! I know that the array of different personalities on the team, the extensive resources available to me both in and out of the pool, and the outstanding coaching and support staff will enable me to better myself as a student, athlete, and human being. I can’t wait to be a Wahoo! GO HOOS!!”

Seiberlich swims for Phoenixville YMCA in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and attends Episcopal Academy in Merion Station. She is a three-event Olympic Trials qualifier (100/200m back and 200m fly), a YMCA National Champion, and a Speedo Junior Nationals Champion. Seiberlich is particularly versatile; she won the 200m free at 2015 Speedo Summer Juniors, the 200y free and 100y fly at the 2016 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships, and the 200m fly at 2016 YMCA National Long Course Championships. She finished in the top 8 of the 100/200y back and 100/200y fly at the 2016 YMCA Short Course Nationals, and of the 200m free, 100/200m back, and 100m fly at the YMCA Long Course Nationals this summer.

Seiberlich’s best times are:

  SCY LCM
200 free 1:49.71 2:03.82
50 back 25.80 30.51
100 back 54.32 1:02.56
200 back 1:55.11 2:11.59
100 fly 54.40 1:01.85
200 fly 1:58.99 2:12.14

Seiberlich will bring terrific scoring ability from the outset. She would have scored in the A final of the 200 back at 2016 ACC Championships, as well as the B final of the 200 fly, and the C finals of the 100 back and 100 fly. She will have an excellent training group in Charlottesville, headed up by sophomore Megan Moroney. Seiberlich is an excellent complement to what has turned out to be a stellar recruiting class for UVA. She’ll join verbal commits Abby Richter, Carolina Gmelich, Erin Earley, Kyla Valls, Marcie Maguire, and Paige Madden in the class of 2021.

Another great commitment for UVA. They lose some top-end talent with Bartholomew now done and breaststroker Simon in her final year — but a class like this shows that Augie is reloading quickly. And the men’s team looks to be in rebound mode now too.
